the new gothic game looks way better than Dragon age, in the environment part that is.

I wish dragon age had had more ground foliage, better and more vegetation. which it lacked.

Even Risen had a better environment look than dragon age. I dont know why but these 2 games beat the crap out of dragon age for that part. Dragon age is better for the rest but when you are outside Risen and Arcania shine and the immersion is awesome because of that.

I do not know why Bioware did not put more attention to that part of the game. It to be the same deal with dragon age 2. Everything shines and is awesome except the vegetation....sad really...

cheers!

True, but Dragon Age is very pretty in isometric view.

It's strange though, I'm a huge Gothic fan and yet I have zero hype for Arcania

I feel the same way. Must be because Piranha Bytes isn't the developer.

I played the demo and It got me interested, I liked it because it seemed to be kind of like Risen.

If you don't already know, Risen was made by the developers of the first three Gothic games. So Risen is almost an unofficial Gothic 4 anyway.

yeah but i can max dragon age at 1440x900 with a Q6600 and an 8800gt heck i can even play Crysis on high with that 8800gt no AA and get 30fps average while gothic 4 demo runs at 20-25fps at low/medium settings ( which looks worse than dragon age at high ). actually i barelly get any fps gains going from high to medium to low which its quite strange ( i get 15-20fps on high about same on medium and 4-5 fps more on low) So while it looks great it needs alot of optimization and hope the demo isnt representative of the final product optimization wise

I didn't know that. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Not to me. The graphics look dated. Sure the lighting is nice but it lacks polish. There's very little attention to detail. Dragon Age looks a lot better. Mind you, I played both games on max settings @ 1920x1200. Gothic 4 doesn't impress me at all.

I liked it, thought framerate is an issue with me. Although I might not buy it, too much backlog...

Combat was waaaaay too easy; It's like the game play was designed for 12 year olds with ADHD. Hidden walls that inhibit free travel; I can't even wade through a pond? Horrible voice acting and animations (granted previous Gothic games had bad animations); That witch you meet made me cringe. Not because she was scary. I cringed because the voice acting was absolutely atrocious.

In short, this didn't feel like a Gothic game to me. That's why I'm not excited about Arcania. The only positive thing I can say about it is that the game performs very well on my system and I found no glitches or bugs in the demo.

I agree with the invisible walls, no swimming and terrible voice acting (although some characters are ok). The combat was easy but I think this is just cause it's the first levels, and it's intended not to put people off. Once you raise a few levels, I'm sure it will be challenging...

Yea, it was really bad, she is what really made me aware of how bad the voice acting was. I just saw potential in the combat and if there is good armor, weapons, spell upgrades it seemed like a game I would enjoy.

I didn't cringe at the witch. I laughed at the witch. :D I didn't think it was that bad up til then, and in that case it was so bad it was entertaining. lol
