are 1440P monitors worth it?

I've been gaming at a 24 inch 1080p monitor or a long time and I never minded it.

But I"m really curious for those of you who own a2560 x 1440 monitor, did you see a difference making the jump?

I only have a single GTX 670 2gig card, would that be enough to run a monitor at that resolution?

I'm just worried about spending around $800 for 1440p monitor than regretting my purchace.

The two things that I am worried about is not beeing able to play my games at that rez, and not being able to see much difference between 1080p and 1440p.

Thanks.

How far away do you sit from your monitor? Does your current one fill your field of view completely already? Do you you think a 1920x1200 24in monitor would give you the added resolution boost you want? Are you planning on running multiple monitors (in desktop usage, not games)? Are you comfortable with the thought that your card will not last as long due to the extra resolution? Do you have good peripheral vision?

For most games except flight simulators such high resolution will probably not make a whole lot of sense, it's mostly for other applications than gaming that such a high resolution is wanted, photo editing, 3D rendering and so on.

Depends on the seller, but some will offer 1 year warranty and they will pay to ship it back.

Can never go wrong with a 2560x1440 display... It does come with a performance hit though, so be wary of that. I bought a Catleap with the OC PCB (120Hz)... I regret nothing. Of course my system can't output 2560x1440 @ 120fps consistantly, but when it does (Dishonored for example) is so sexy.

I heard about those korean retailers selling those monitors for $300, but I'm skeptical about the warranty. and I heard those monitors come with dead pixels and color bleeding. But it beats speding around 800 for a Dell monitor.

I'm not planning on running multiple monitors, and I sit infront of my computer

I'm just wondering if that resolution jump will actually make my jaw drop.

I've bought from BCC and 120Hz.net (which is in relation with Greensum) and they both valued the warranty / reacted quickly to faulty monitors / components. Full refund, excellent communication on BCCs part. Greensum introduce a bit of delay but that was thanks to Witech (actual manufacturers of the monitors).

There are different versions of the Catleap. The Multi, which is the most common version, has been known to have input delay and they aren't Overclockable, so if you don't care about 120Hz, then OC-ing shouldn't matter. The OC-ing variant does not have an OSD, has only 1 input (DVI-D) and comes with a slight yellow hue (which can be rectified via Color Profiles).

For the dead pixel issue.... They use A- panels... that's why there's a PLAUSIBILITY of dead pixels/stuck pixels. Smudges / discoloration are returnable. There's also the Overlord Tempest that has different variants.

Tempting, but I bet is B**** to take that risk. Overseas, warranty, custom fee(?) blah blah.

The one I got is flawless. And even if there were soem dead pixels, the pixels are so tiny that they would even be noticeable. Having one dead would look like having a speck of dirt on the screen. Honestly the only drawback from them in the wobbly stand. I've heard that the CrossOver models have better stands than the Catleaps.

-

And to TC, there is a very noticeable difference in image quality compared to 1080p. Having 2xAA on most games completely rids the game of jaggies. Even though there is not a good warranty for the Korean ones, they are literally half the price of Dell or Asus screen. It's still somewhat of a risk, but it seems like the majority of people do not have any problems with their monitors. You can find out more info here

Here is a pic the one that I got

I really want to get a catleap, but with those extra pixels what gpu would I need to max all current and future games for atleast the next couple years? Corrently I have a 460, but am looking into getting a 670. With a 670 would I be able to max future games for the next couple years?

I have an HD6950 2GB Crossfire setup which is about equivalent to a 2GB GTX 670 (although if you OC the 670, it will be better). There is a 4GB variation of the 670 which would be great since the higher resolution uses a lot more VRAM

Have you heard of theseAchieva ShiMian 27"monitors? They are just like the catleap 1440p, but are a bit cheaper and come with a perfect pixel gurantee. I really want a catleap, but I am afraid of buying one and getting a bunch of dead pixels that I cant live with.

I upgraded from three Dell 24" 1920x1200 u2412ms to three Dell 27" 2560x1440 u2711s and I love them. You have to have a pretty beefy PC to run at those resolutions but it's worth it in many genres of game. I run Skryim in Eyefinity at 4200x2560 and it's like looking through a window in Narnia. That high a level of detail on a combined display that large is astounding. I also have a Mitsubishi 1080P projector running on an 80" screen with a 5.1 surround system but that fills a different entertainment niche. Huge version of standard HD quality, versus super high detail display that you actually benefit from sitting only a few feet away from.

My Catleap is pixel perfect as well. I know a lot of others that received excellent quality catleaps. Greensum / BCC test each monitor before shipping, so if one of them has too many stuck pixel, they get canned. Not to mention if you can get the Pixel Perfect version which is a bit more expensive but at least it's risk of having dead/stuck pixels is lower.

Ya... The stand was bad... I just went and got myself a new stand with a 75mm to 100mm VESA mount adapter. It corrected the slight angle / wobbliness of it.

Did you buy it on ebay? If so which person did you buy it from that checks if there is dead/stuck pixels? I kind of want the achieva, because its a bit cheaper and comes with the pixel perfect gurantee. What are the benefits of a catleap over an achieva?

I bought the 2B variant, which is overclockable... Those models are currently out of stock though. I bought it from 120Hz.net whose owner has a deal with Greensum (ebay seller) http://www.120hz.biz/monitors/ (Check the forums, tons of info about Catleaps and other 1440p monitors along with guides to overclock).

Aside from the bezel/stand, there's really no difference between them. They both use the same A- panels that Apple rejected. Depends which model of Catleap you get, you can overclock it and if you don't care about the OC, then go with whichever you like more.

THere's also the Overlord Tempest ones... I haven't bought one myself, but apparantly they are good. http://www.overlordcomputer.com/

Im cautious about taking the bezel off to get it mounted. I have never mounted a screen before and the picture guide on Overclock.net isn't fleshed out enough to make me comfortable that I could do it properly

Oh dang.... a 1440p monitor @ 120hz? SOLD!!! I actually wanted both. Will use for gaming when I don't want to use my Eyefinity set-up.
