I hate dell. Hp I like but over my budget for the one I like. Is this gateway build any good? http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668058.php. But I read on cnet that the 400 watt PSU can be a problem later for gpu upgrades. Thanks and don't tell me to build my own computer.

Yeah I guess its good, but I personally wouldnt trust running an 8800GT and all the other stuff on a 400W PSU. However I really dont see why you dont want to build your own. If its human lazyness, its going to bite you in the butt when you need to upgrade and dont know how, because then your going to have to buy yet again, another new system. I guess I could understand if you lost both your arms in a tragic accident while saving a bus full of puppies who can cure cancer, but even then...

They may have good hardware, but good luck with their tech support. I've faced nightmare after another dealing with their support service at literally every avenue of product, from my first desktop being from them, to right now with one of their monitors. The worst thing is that they proverbially have me by the balls on the monitor business because of the fact that they're the only company that puts out a monitor with a complete set of video inputs that I'd need.

I've had to deal with dell tech support nothing can be worse than that. The gpu fried twice. Anyways in no rush so will keep thinking and looking thanks for the info

Consider this.

You can get .5 more GHz processing power and a 512MB GeForce 9600GT, but half the hard drive space and half the RAM for $1114.

Also, as an added bonus, it'll light up from the inside.

Edit:

you could also shuffle through this garbage for what looks like a pretty damn sweet gaming rig....

but it's $100 more.

Also, you can get a clear case for a buck extra.

double edit:

here

Dell, Gateway, and HP all outsource their tech support....probably to the same company.

nightwraith40k

you need to understand that 85% of these posters build their own computers and despise any retail computer companies.

I have no problem with them myslef but what do you plan on using your computer for? and what is your budget? Dell, Gateway, HP, all basically sell the same computers for more or less the same price.

More for high quality RTS gaming (ie. Company of Heroes/World in Conflict) but some fps games (crysis on high thats what the crysis guys said I could get with the q2.5 ghz 4 gb ram and 8800 gt)

Budget is around the $1500 mark for the computer by itself, cheaper the better cause I still need a decent monitor.

Yea, I wish I could buy from online computer stores like cyberpower etc. but family wouldn't trust them. Its not my credit card. Mostly I'm stuck with Futureshop etc. and the main websites of the annoying retailers. Oh they also trust Amazon but Amazon Canada doesn't have computers only the US site does.

Alienware seem nice but I can't seem to build one I like without blowing my budget by like $500 over

Since you said you don't want to build, try a Dell XPS420, they are fairly cheap. you can buy the extra ram and a GPU off newegg and save some money.

Yea I like it its cheaper than the hp I like with the same specs.

But note the Gateway doesn't have Blueray (which I like and is $200/300) and no tv tuner (which I don't even need).

Gateway just put new models up :)

http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668005.php

Yea it ends up to be $2000 dollars but it has free monitor ($219) blue ray in it (like more than $200) 2 pci x 16slots and sli ready with nvidia chipset and 700 watt PSU so no worrys about GPU cards anymore

I can always take off the office, norton (I think I have one at home)

Warranty is fine to go overbudget I think

What do you think artie and ct1615?

edit: also Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI Sound Card, 2.1 speakers, elite keyboard and tv tuner (not that I need that)

only 32 bit vista though and only 3 gb ram but most likely when I need more than 3 gb windows 7 would be out by then and I could buy the 64-bit one

I think that one looks pretty good for a factory comp.

While the memory is only 3 gigs standard, it's upgradable to 8. The network specs look good, except I would recommend adding a wifi card somewhere down the line.
