are my 7200 RPM hard drives considered slow now?

i have 2 seagate 7200.10 hard drives in raid 0.

here are the specs for the drives:

http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2d1099f4fa74c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

although i'd love an SSD, if i were to upgrade, i'd probably have to get non-SSD drives.

when i run windows experience index, everything is at either 7.2 or 7.4.....except my disk data transfer rate is 5.9. would it be worth it to upgrade my hard drives? say i put them in raid 0 again, would new drives be a lot faster even if i don't go with a SSD?

rest of pc is q6600 @3ghz

6gb ram

gtx 470

win7 64 bit

thanks!

Just to see the Windows Experience thing higher? That seems wasteful.

Are you unhappy with your performance? Are you unhappy with combined storage quantity? If you say yes, feel free to upgrade. If not, you're fine. At most maybe get a single, "cheap" SSD and experiment with it. Try it as a secondary. Then maybe as a boot drive.

5.9 is standard for 7200 RPM drives. I've got a 500GB Samsung Spinpoint; it's got the same score as your hard drive. I've also got a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black. However, it's not my main drive, so I don't can't get a Windows Experience Index score for it. If you want a faster non-SSD drive, the only thing I can recommend is a 10,000 RPM drive.

I really doubt you will notice much of a difference outside of load times and even then it won't be worth the price. Get one if you want to upgrade and you're happy with all your other parts and you have money to burn(most people don't.)
