I like answering this question no way, Yet how many games that have come out for the PC lately, that are quality. What I see is more and more On-line games. Is my perception wrong. (Demo are definitely dead.)
This topic is locked from further discussion.
none at the moment because devs are in need of money because of the bad economy, thats why the quick and rushed games are out at the moment JUST FOR MONEY.
but soon to be quality will be starcraft 2, diablo 3, battlefield 3(rumor!!!)
Not in the least. There is turmoil over DRM, but i promise pc gaming is not dead. Consider that even with stores like console whoring gamestop pushing pc out, pc gaming is still very healthy. The same thing happens everytime a new generation of console comes out.

Short answer, no.
Longer answer. No for several reasons. First it's march. We're three months after X-Mas which ends the biggest game release season. the first quater of the year is usually very slow. In spite of that we've had both Dawn of War II and Total War Empire released. Two of the better strategy games I've seen in some time.. and PC exclusive at that.
This question has been asked, discussed, dismissed and studied on these boards hundreds of times. Do we really need to go through it yet again? Of course PC gaming isn't doomed, it's still profitable, and while there isn't as much money in the PC as there is in consoles, it will remain a strong force in gaming. This despite DRM issues. Now, can be go back to discussin anything else?
Not at all. Just because consoles have a larger user-base, it does not mean that PC games are not a profitable industry. If you make a good game, your company will make a lot of money.
PC gaming offers an experience that the consoles can not. From my perspective the PC gaming industry is pumping out a larger percentage of great games than the console gaming industry is. PC games have and always will be at the forefront of technological development. They look better, they play better, they're bigger. They have better communities, more customizability, more mods and user-created content. They're just done better in my opinion.
Yet how many games that have come out for the PC lately, that are quality.

I loved all these games below. PC gaming is far from dead, its still the best system to game on and i own consoles aswell. PC GAMING >>
I took a year or two off of pc gaming and now that im back into it im loving it as much as ever. There are a bunch of games im catching up on that i missed, plus all the new ones below.
Not to mention the best version of Team Fortress2, Left4Dead, Mirrors Edge and thousands of others. Not to mention the best collecitno of older great games to.
If PC gaming isn't doomed then it isn't for lack of effort.
For a long stretch of years there was little to no real effort to market PC games. It seems as if advertisers decided that all they had to do was place a few ads in PC gaming magazines and call it a day. The problem only go worse when Mircosoft, Sony, and Nintendo started pump money into adverising games they hoped would convince people to buy their consoles. The "killing stroke" was our own critics. How many reviews and previews did you see that focuses on how you where going to have to upgrade to play? You do understand that confusion about hardware terms and the price of hardware are two of the biggest reasons why people abandon the PC in favor of consoles, right? The only people who like that idiotic "you must upgrade" song and dance are the hard-core hardware freaks who don't mind paying 400+ for a video card on top of what they charged for the rest of the PC. Everyone else - "Why bother, its cheaper and easier to play on the console, bye."
The reliability of the product is another issue. I've lost track of how many games I've seen that were horribly buggy, blatently unfinished, or so broken that they still don't work right after being patched. Please don't insult me by offering up that lame excuse of " Its the hardware configurations." I have no doubt this makes it more challenging. However, all that excuse doesn't is prove that some of the people who make games are not up to the challenge and should leave. This is more a matter of taking pride in your work and aiming for a goal you can actually reach. When was the last time the uninstall actually removed every part of the game? Keep in mind that all PC programs have required a install/uninstall program since Windows 95. That is 14 years of software development. Most PC games leave something behind on your hard drive. If developers/distributors don't care enough to do the basics well then it should be no surprise that so many PC games don't run well.
Why should they care? We keep buying the garbage. We let Valve get away with the worst release ever. (If you don't think the Half-Life 2 release was bad then tell me, could EA have pulled that off with any of their games?) Some of us are lame enough to write patches for games less than six months old. How many of you actually paid for Grand Theft Auto 4 after hearingabout the bad condition it was released in? Every time we do this we scream loud and clear "HEY! you don't have to do your best. So-so and mediocre is ok."
I know we can claim MMO,RTS games , and mods but for how long? There are already a number of excellent RTS games on the console. Some have PC versions that are nearly indentical to the console version. Sony hasstate they willrelease no more PC only MMO's. Its only a matter of time before other do the same. There are a few mod friendly games too. When everything is more complicated on the PC why shouldanyonebother PC modding that require 4 or 5 other mods to run?
If PC gaming isn't dying then it isn't for lack of trying. It certainly isn't healthly and most everyone is perfectly happy to keep on following the same broken road in the future.
that's a very long read. btw.
I don't think PC gamings in trouble, all that's gonna happen is they are going to have to put more and more intrusive anti piracy software into games. People always get depressed around this time of year at the lack of game release.
It does make me wonder where the proiorities lay,
the state of some ports to PC is shamefull and to my mind deliberate negligence
I guess the developers realise that consoles are far easier to control, you only have to look at the latest attack on xbox users by microsoft to see where tha battle lines are being drawn.
With completey unfair and in some cases illegal copyright agrrements , the use of truely unjustifyable DRM like securom which has proven damage to PC's and is still active after "uninstall" then the playing field id not even.
But for the question, I dont believe they are, my example is Stardock and their increadibly succesful game gallactic Civilizations II, this to me prover that there will always be a market for PC games, is the "big boys" remove themselves and forsake the PC then there will be a mirriad of smaller companies that will rise up and fill the void,
The PC is a hugely used platform with hundreds of milions of potential customers so the console markets and microsoft itself can try as hard as they like but there will always be PC gamers and the games we play will always fullfil out needs.
I personally dont like console gaming I prefer the control you get from a keyboard and mouse, but thats a different argument all together,
PC gaming will always exist and to me the games on PC will become all the more refined for it,
As a market where the basic equiptment costs at least 2 to 3 times more than a console it is enevitable that the niche connoisseur market will continue and provail.
Never forget that if money is to be spent then companies will attempt to sell you their product and PC users have money,
So to answer, NO, PC ganes aren't doomed, but they are and always will be driven by the market and the people that use them,
It will never be the same market as at the extremes the two produts have different demographics and cant be compared equally
PS please ignoe my typos , it is wery late and i am totally knackered and ready for my bed, lol
PPS an after thought, Why are shooters so popular on consoles when it is so much easier to aim with a mouse, I have never understood this, I couldn't imagine trying to aim with a gamepad. let alone running and ducking for cover changing weapons, thats just shooters, I cant imagine trying to play some of the RTS or RPG games on a gamepad, so so so much easier with a mouse and dozens of keys........
You have to seperate the quality of games and the state of the industry.
The quality of games stagnated 10 years ago, zero innovention ever since.
On the other hand PC gaming as an industry has never put the amount of cash into the pockets of incompetent amateurs as it does now.
So, pc games died many years ago but they produce a gigantic surplus :)
That's what they call a paradox
The problem isn't the actual developers but the Companies that Green light their projects, They look at video games and try to estimate if they'll be profitable enough to invest time and money in, very few of them care about actual innovation or god forbid Storytelling.
Let's face it guys, PC gaming is doomed. DOOOOOOOOOOOMED, I tell 'ya! That's why its been "dying" for the past ten years.
Nope, not doomed. Maybe struggling a bit at the moment but not doomed.
I mean, yes, the constant upgrading and patching and troubleshooting is tedious and irritating but I have faith that games developers will come to really focus on erradicating this. They can only ignore our anguished cries for so long.
And yes, crappy ports hurt me . But there's so much to be hopeful about.
This year will see the release of Diablo 3 and Modern Warfare 2. Granted, MW2 will be multi-platform but we all know the the PC version of CoD4 was far superior to what the consoles got. So I think we can expect the same. Infinity Ward seem to care, y'know?
And look at what potential awaits. Crysis 2 anybody? I know Crysis seems to be a bit like marmite but I love it. Okay, I'm lucky enough to own a fairly potent gaming rig and thus can handle the highest graphical settings of Crysis with a fairly respectable and stable framerate (until it starts snowing that is...). Anyway, I digress. Then there's the next installment of TES. Granted, Oblivion was a pain in the arse to get to work without frequent ctds but, again, I have faith that Bethseda will make it a priority to eliminate that. Mass Effect 2 has been confirmed also. We may even get Assassin's Creed 2. And I know these are all sequels but who can predict what wonders new talent might produce?
So yeah, waffling aside, PC gaming has alot going for it. It's only doomed when we all give up hope and switch to consoles.

GTA4? greate graphics, worst game in what is really not a very good series to begin with.
Well, your particular taste isnt enough to call pc gaming doomed. Its the general opinion that counts. And most of those games we mentioned have recieved very good critics from the general pc gaming community, and sales has been good too...
And as before mentioned in this thread, pc gaming has been called "doomed" for ages now. Its bulls**t

Here is the trouble, you are refering to the games that you and your friends personally like as a FACT while pointing to the game I and my friends personally dont like as a "particular taste".
as far as critics go, they are about as "good" at rating games as the oscars is at rating movies....poorly. and I will turn over in my grave before I am forced to say that Titantic and No Country for Old Men where good enough movies to get that kind of attention.
Basically given your argument toward my statement nobody can say that gaming is dead or good becuase both are a view point.
No, i am not refering to the games me and my friends like. I am refering to the games both reviewers and gamers in general like. And that is what makes or brake a gaming console or the pc. If i where to say "Empires Total War SUCKS!!" it wouldnt really count as a argument against pc gaming because most people and reviewers love it. So your argument on "No country for all men" doesnt really apply either.
As long as there are made PC games that are getting good reviews from magazines and gamers, it will live. And right now that is the case.

ok from now on in any regards to the topic of "is gaming dying" I will preface my comments by saying "in my view" as much as I can.
If it will make you more happy I will bear the burden of it being "my view" while you can rest with your experience being "fact".
In MY VIEW, PC games have gone from being really good to being mostly a big lard of garbage.
ADDED:
games are like movies in this area. One does not go to a movie come out and say "this movie is terrible becuase most people dont like and the reviewers agree" anymore than they come out and say "this movie was great becuase most people like it!"
Titanic was STILL a terrible movie even though most people liked it...that is what I gotta say
I think the point is that it isn't relevant what you or any other one or two people think of a game (or a movie, for that matter). When talking about whether or not a platform is "doomed", the only real consideration is commercial success. That's what is needed for a platform to succeed, the publishers need to sell the games and make a profit. By those terms, most of the above were, in fact, good games, or at least successful games. You may or may not like any of them, but it's the money that talks, not any individual's opinion.
And I agree, Titanic was terrible, but it was successful. I'm just not sure why.
If anything, that pretty much puts the nail in PC Gaming. We all know the next RPG from Bethesda is going to be as casual as it gets.Bethesda look to be making a TES 5 since they copyrighted Skyrim. (region in the elder scrolls)
PC gaming is far from dead in my opinion.

I've been a PC-Gamer for over 20 years now, and PC Gaming has been "doomed","Dead" or "Dying" the entire timeaccording to the internet (or BBS's in the early part of that 20 years, as the internet was not used much outside of universities at that time)
All I can say is that the claims are either always wrong, or PC Gaming has been a very active zombie over that time frame.
Doomed? Kojima just announced MGS5 exclusive for PC as it's the only platform powerful enough to make his dreams come true. Quick!! Spread the rumor! Go! Go! Gooooooo!:D
A world wide market value of $11 billion and more high rated exclusives than all the other platforms put today.
Dying people say?

I see no single rts in console that worth the money. I also only use consoles to fighting games and UT III in PS3 (because the k&m support). But I recently buy the PC version of UT III and it looks 4 times better and runs at 62 fps constantly in my 46" Panasonic PZ85. So, I have PS3, XBOX 360 but I can't play shooters with a pad.
Almost ALL multisystem games runs and looks tons better in my PC than in console, so the 1.900 € in the display was a bit a waste -except by the blu-ray movies-. I'm now planing to build a new PC in the living room to play in my plasma panel at 1080p/60 fps without the lacksof power that current consoles have, so, consoles in this generation are a bit dying to me now. IMO Xfire is better than PS Network and Xbox Live combined.
I'm now waiting for new PC games as Starcraft II, Crysis 2, BF3 and Diablo III. Only title in console that I'm awaiting for is Tekken 6 BR, and I'm not very excited about next launchships in MS or Sony platformas.
