I just want to kick myself for not maxing the RAM (max is 8 GB and I currently have 4, I know it's not needed now, but I intend to run them for a looong time) in my current systems when DDR2 RAM was selling really cheap. So, is this going to happen again, or from now on DDR3 prices will decrease and DDR2 prices are going to go up and up?

I think you've kind of hit the nail on the head with your prediction. Hardware which is on its way out tends to rise in price due to its scarcity after a while. New tech is obviously priced at a premium. I'd grab DDR2 right now if you're not upgrading your processor in the next year or two and you're worried about falling short with the memory you've got.

The thing is, I will be more than pissed off if I pay for DDR2 now (what I consider to be really expensive compared to previous prices) only to find that prices went down steeply like in last spring.

Lesson of the day: when you want to buy something and you have the money, BUY IT.

I think that manufacturers are keen to start flogging their new, premium priced hardware, and dropping prices on old tech would be a disincentive for people to upgrade. Memory prices are pretty cheap at the moment, I think it's just worth asking yourself whether you're likely to be running anything that demanding on your current socket architecture.

look at the prices for ddr ram then compare to ddr2 ram, they will most likely go up if ddr3 lowers.

All you have to do is create a movement for cheaper RAM prices. Or you could just email Newegg and ask why their prices are so high ;) Actually if you want cheap DDR2 RAM then head on over to Frys.com. I recently sent them an email congratulating them for their cheap RAM prices and they said they were very pleased to hear this from me ;)
