It seems like they're focusing a lot on multi-player and single-player is just a second thought. Do you think the current prices are worth it if you don't play multi-player? Atleast for COD4 I heard it was a pretty short campaign. I enjoyed the demo.I have gotten replay value, usually at different difficulties, for like MOHAA, BIA1 and COD1. Never played multi on those and thought I got my money's worth. What do you think?

COD4 isn't worth it if you don't buy it to play the multiplayer, it's like 4 hours long and disappointing. Howvever the orange box is fantastic with HL2 series and Portal, though TF2 is multiplayer you can buy them all on their own anyways. Also lots of people loved Bioshock, even though i thought it was pants myself lol and Crysis is coming out soon so that'll be a great single player hopefully seeing as the multiplayer sucks.

Also why are you paying for single player games? You know you don't have to lol.

COD4 isn't worth it for the single player only. The campaign is way shorter and less interesting than the COD, CODUO and COD2 single player campaigns. There's enough variety to keep you playing the game til the end, but it just doesn't last. There's an arcade mode that you can play once you've beaten the game though, which seems kinda cool (I haven't played it much myself though, so don't take my word for it). The problem is also that some missions in single player are great, while some others are boring.

The bottom line: COD4 is a game you'll want to get for the multiplayer.

No, if you don't play multiplayer (don't know why you wouldn't) the best buy for you right now would the witcher.

I don't play multiplayer either, nor do i play many fps, but if you were to get one worth it for the singleplayer, get bioshock, or if you want to try a rpg, which are way better most of the time, get the witcher or hellgate:london.

also when crysis comes out that'll be worth it for singleplayer

If you haven't played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, go ahead and give that a try. Just make sure you get patch 1.0004 (what the hell's up with those zeros, anyway?) before you actually start playing. There's plenty of mods, a whole lot of challenge in most areas, and seven or so different endings.

play a recent fps game on hardest difficulty first time through, you might find it a bit longer... i mean, why play single player on regular and leave it at that? Its kind of boring. I need a challenge to make a game like COD4 fun.

If you want single player, you should get, nay you NEED, the orange box. Gears of war is pretty damn fun too. Crysis will be.

COD4 might be worth a purchase if you really enjoy the gameplay. The higher difficulties will last you a decent amount of time (although the hardest will probably piss you off more than anything, it goes slightly too far), and theres an arcade mode which i think is something like halo 3's points thing. Otherwise... definitely give it a rental, for a couple of play throughs. It has some really amazing parts in it.

I def agree COD 4 is shortm, but it in no way is not a great story. Its one great action packed ride, thatsd over wayy too soon. But yes, it is still ture, if you don't likm,e the multiplayer, you arn't getting much time in on cod44 unless you play the campaign alot.

Yes. Multiplayer is usually an afterthought when developers have a single player story to tell. An example is one of the Halo developers said that 75% of their resources went into the single player. They finished multiplayer first because it was the easiest to finish and then they could put all their effort into the single player.

By the way, I think Call of Duty 4 had the best single experience out of any first-person shooter I have played yet. It took me about seven hours to get through on Veteran without death times, about ten hours including deaths.

Unfotunately it looks like the recent trend in FPS has been screw the single player game and focus on multiplayer. I personally hate this trend since it leaves out those of us who play games primarily for a good storyline. I do play multiplayer sometimes but that is rare. I'd love to see a game come out the has a good blance of single and multiplayer.

If you want a good singleplayer FPS get Bioshock. It has a great story. Also, get Crysis when it comes out. Judging from the demo and previews it will have a good single player campaign.

If you've never played Half Life 2, the Orange Box is a wonderful single player package. If you have played HL2, its value is a little dubious. Portal is a wonderful game, but it's too short to be worth it unless you have deep pockets.

Besides that, there's very little recent that's worth it. If you like F.E.A.R, Perseus Mandate is probably well worth it. Not yet out in UK so I can't comment on it personally, but I have read that it has a feature where you can generate a random map filled with enemies, then just blow through it killing them all. Sort of like the FPS equivalent of the skirmish mode you might find in an RTS game. Considering how awesome F.E.A.R's combat is, that strikes me as being a very appealing feature.

And besides that, you're probably best off waiting for Crysis.

agreed, right now im playing Bioshock, Crysis demo, Supreme Commander. All for single player only (well two of them aren't even multiplayer) I also play the orange box which is a deal for SP. I am thinking about either the witcher or gears of war for another game along with SMG and Crysis. dang, can't wait for next week.

I Really enjoyed COD 4's Single player.... it is short but o so awesome, (it is my favorite COD)...... and the addition of the arcade mode adds a lot of replay to the game (at least i think so.... having a high score to beat is fun :D)

o ya plus u can collect enemy intel to unlock cheats

Do you like RTS? Supcom, Company of Heroes (with opposing fronts), Dawn of War (with the 2 expansions for it.), and Medieval 2 are awesome!

Medieval's campaign is fun, but I get really bored after a while, so I end up making more custom battles then playing the campaign, then when I'm bored with that, I go back to the campaign, and end up finishing it, then back to custom battles.

It's a never ending cycle.

I think all of those but medieval have a demo for them, and they are all worth trying!

If you don't like RTS, then this post is pointless.

if uve played hl2 than orange box sux. episiode 1 is poo, and episode 2 is the only good single player thing. portal prolly isnt ur idea of fun. and u dont wana play tf2 cus its multi only. so only good thing in it is episode 2 which lasts about as long as cod4.

i say buy gears of war and play it on hardcore, then after u beat it ull unlock "insane" so play that. lasted me many moons.

I hate that kind of difficulty setting though, it makes the enemies take WAY more damage (usually if you don't drop them to their knees and unload the rest of the clip into their head, they won't die.) and your so easy to kill that you wonder why the hell you have armor on. It's not like the enemies get any smarter, they just do the same thing they always did.
