They haven't giving a good reason why they aren't releasing it on the PC. I'm still waiting for that.
Relic are idiots, if you watched the video showing what they do all day, you'd probably not be suprised. Some guys were playing pool, others were playing with toys, and only one guy working. Pfft, relic sucks.
.... Looking outside of the mindless fanboy rheotric of people crying that they are not releasing a game (that they have announced so far, I am sure its not set in stone) on their system.. I would say Relic is infact SMART, if its a success on the consoles it will definitely make the beloved Warhammer 40k universe way more popular.. Lets face it, even with Dawn of War series.. Warhammer 40k is still a niche universe that not many know about as much as the likes of things like the drab Halo universe.. Furthermore I am quite sure every one has a friend that owns either a Xbox360 or PS3 to which they play the game.
Homeworld/Homeworld 2 and Company of Heroes says that Relic could drive a ship into an iceberg, crash an airplane into a mountain and light themselves on fire and they'd still be genius' in my eyes.

Although I agree that if it is a success that Relic stands to make more money through the consoles, it still doesn't make sense that they are not releasing a PC version. Not releasing it for PC is infact NOT smart as they are ignoring the biggest fanbase for "Space Marine". How hard would it be for them to port it too PC and cash in on PC sales as well?
my guess is their RTS Fanbase is on the PC and Hack and Slash fanbase is on console. Same way as the Creative Assembly hasn't released their hack and slash game on PCs
Edit : I don't even think think this is Relic's Decision .
It isn't and Gamework Shop is one of the most uptight company I have ever seen when it comes to their licensing..They're a smart team and I bet they had their reasons for not annoucing a PC verison yet. My only concern from all of this is the fact that all of relic's fans will flame them for not annoucing a pc version, forcing them to just release a crappy port. This would just enrage all the hardcore fans and create an even worse reputation for pc gamers. I mean, don't get me wrong, I feel like as PC gamers, we should be the ones being taken care of first by Relic but this is just how business works.

You mean like Dawn of War 1 and its 2 expansions they made, or Company of Heroes and its 2 expansions.. or Dawn of War 2 recently? and what reason would that be piracy :P Piracy is not much of a issue when Dawn of War 2 is linked to Steam and windows live.. And Company of Heroes new versiosn you have to be online to even play now.I think it s like they are throwing a bone to the console crowd... I mean no good WH40K game ever graced the consoles, so they might do this out of the "kindness of thier heart" (see quick cash in for reference).
They may feel that the game is not well suited for PC, and I will grant them that...
If it does sell huge, and the demand for it is high enough they might port it.
and No I doubt Relic lost a screw somewhere on the way
From what I've seen of the game, it looks like a GoW clone. I know there are supposed to be some RPG elements but from what I saw I don't think it would appeal to much to PC gamers. Just a hunch as to why they decided not to bring it over.Gooeykat

I'd like to know what version of GoW you played...cause it sure as hell ain't the one I played...
I think it has more in common with games like Too Human...it's an action RPG that pits you against hordes of monsters. Of course it looks 10x better than Too Human (which is still a fun game) but it definetly has more in common with games like that...calling it a GoW clone is just *boggles*
And of course I can't speak for everyone...but in my humble opinion the game looks nothing less than awesome.
Can't wait for it to come out!

The trailer did have actual gameplay...so have no idea what you are talking about with the whole "actual gamplay" thing lol.

No, he called it a brawler because he is watching an old leaked tech demo that doesn't represent what the actual gameplay is going to be like. It's an ARPG, and fits exactly that based on the GAME PLAY shown in the real trailer.

DNuggs, I really find it interesting that someone who usually exhibits such rational thought in most of your posts is giving way to your senses by seeing a simple trailer. I am not impressed by trailers. And you are right, I went back and watched it again, there is probably less that :10 gameplay in it. More importantly, IT'S A TRAILER. It is designed to show off all the best aspects of an upcoming game. Show me a gameplay video (like the one they did for Diablo 3) and then I can make informed opinion. A gameplay video that doesn't HIDE certain aspects of a game that a dev doesn't want you to see.[QUOTE="dnuggs40"][QUOTE="Gooeykat"]

My main point is that off the trailer I linked (even with the old trailer) it's obvious the game is not going to be like GoW...they showed game play in the trailer and while they can make it look cooler than it really is, it's not often that they completely misrepresent what kind of game play actually exists in the game.
Honestly it seems you just wanted (for whatever reason, but my guess is you are sour it's not coming to the PC) to believe it's going to be "console crap GoW clone"...the reality is it's not. The trailer's game play looked very good, and Relic has a VERY good track record. While that doesn't guarantee a great game, all the right elements are there for it.
Am I excited for the game? Heck yeah! An A-RPG (my favorite genre...note the TQ avatar) developed by a great developer (Relic) set in the 40K universe sounds like heaven to me!
Does that mean I think it's 100% certain to be great? No of course not...

Actually that thought never crossed my mind because the only thing that I've seen was that youtube video (which was months ago), which didn't impress me so I wrote it off. I don't know what it's going to be like at this point since it has been revealed that it was another Dev who did that early version. I know Relic has a good track record but still I would imagine Relic believes that this type of game wouldn't appeal to the vast number of PC gamers, which is why they wouldn't bring it over. It's not like Relic is new to PC gaming arena, if anything they know us better than we know ourselves. So my guess is that they believe it would not appeal to us. Anyway, I'll keep my eye out for a gameplay walkthrough for this game, without all the flashy bells and whistles.
Since when would a A-RPG that has you hacking through hordes of baddies, leveling up, looting items, and set in the bloody 40K universe not appeal to PC gamers? That honestly sounds more like a PC game than a console game...
I am actually surprised it's a console exclusive...though I have my doubts it will stay that way. I think they will eventually release it for the PC. In my opinion this has more to do with things like piracy and Relic wanting a piece of that huge console pie.
Which begs the question, why is Relic (who is revered among most PC gamers) not releasing it on the PC? Seems like a no brainer to me. The logical conclusion to that question (IMHO) is that they don't think it would sell well. Anyway, we're going in circles here. ;)
Something is fishy about this one, that' my hunch.
Edit...
DNuggs said "this has more to do with things like piracy and Relic wanting a piece of that huge console pie"
Ahh, maybe, good point. Maybe they are worried about early piracy on the PC ruining it for consoles and will eventually bring it over.
Probably because they are sick and tired of the rampant piracy on the PC platform, and want to start making games on consoles where the profits are potentially much bigger and issues like what the PC has are pretty much a non-issue. And in all likely hood the game will probably make it to the PC at some point anyways...delayed hushed PC releases are becoming a common place these days.

I doubt the last two games of relic are having piracy problems when both their games have a really strict online account tailored to the cdkey now.. I think its because Dawn of War 2 didn't meet expectations.. Hell they even had a limited budget compared to games like Company of Heroes.[QUOTE="dnuggs40"]I doubt the last two games of relic are having piracy problems when both their games have a really strict online account tailored to the cdkey now.. Yup, DoW 1 + expansion sold 3m+ with the vanilla/main version selling over 2m. I am pretty sure Space Marine would not sell on either of consoles that much and cost much more to make (it does looks like they are reusing assets from DoW 2, so the actual cost may not be so high). They havn't disclosed sales for coH or DoW 2 but as per reports CoH caused a huge spike in THQ's quarterly profits.Probably because they are sick and tired of the rampant piracy on the PC platform, and want to start making games on consoles where the profits are potentially much bigger and issues like what the PC has are pretty much a non-issue. Nobody said it was the first time...however...I think this game is a different step for them. I think piracy is definitely affecting their business decisions. It's not the sole determiner, but you bet your ass it's a major part of the discussion. Anyways, I don't want to turn this into a piracy discussion...that's been argued over and over again...
Hey...does anybody else think this is funny? I posted this back in feb 08 for a 40K game idea:
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26198180
What would you think of a Warhammer 40K RPG/ARPG type game? Here's the way I have it imagined. The game play would most likely be from a 3rd person/over the shoulder view. It would have to have a mix of melee combat and ranged. I guess the closest thing would be kind of like Guild Wars, but the controls would have to be much tighter and rely more on actions rather then stats. The mouse buttons would be your left/right hand (and use whatever was equipped in each). So, for instance, in your left hand you could have a chain sword, and right hand could have a bolter, that way you can easily switch between melee/ranged as needed. WASD to move, spacebar jump, E to use, ect, ect. Hellgate London's control could be kind of used as an example, though it would be greatly improved. Movement would need to be more fluid (like Gears of War for example).
The game itself would be geared for single player (I think 40k is very cool world, and single player allows for better story telling), and have the player progressing through an epic story starting as fresh meat space marine squad leader. Opening level would serve as a tutorial of sorts, and introduce the player to the controls, as well as get the players "character" introduced in the story. Obviously space marines work in squads, so this would have to be a squad based game. Something similar to Star Wars: Republic Commando would work excellent, except your squad (when you eventually get one) is customizable and would be larger.
RPG elements will be in the game, but not in the manner most ARPG's have them. I guess it's "rpg-lite". Enemies won't drop items, instead, before each mission you have to select your (and your squads) load out. I think it would be cool, to have upgradeable selection though, so it wont be limited. Here's where some of the more unique RPG ideas come into place...instead of the ARPG staple of looting/buying/selling to upgrade items, you gain this by achieving your way through the ranks of the legion, including deciding which chapter to fall under. What will make this element so cool is through your battlefield achievements (or some other mechanic) you get to decide what route to take you and your squad. Would be awesome to move into devastator type load outs, then get promoted to terminators, ect. Or you could take other routes, for instance focus on psyker mutations and go for librian/chaplain/apocathary. I think the best way to implement this mechanic, is to gain "tactical points" after each mission. There would also be side objectives in each mission, allowing you to gain extra points. Not sure if there would be your standard RPG type stats (str, end, int, ect), but there would have to be something to gain to put towards upgrading and specializing so you can fall into the different chapters. Each chapter would have access to different equipment/implants/psyker powers/ect. There would also probably be different levels in each chapter, so as to build on that equipment.
For actual setting, I think the best would be to pit the Space Marines against the Tyranids. Though some of the other races could make cameos, I think the scale of the game would have to be realistic. So I think it can't be like Dawn of War with huge battles, it would be more tactical and smaller scaled (think Space Hulk).
Just had that idea and thought it was cool. I always loved the 40K setting (not a buff or anything though), and ARPG's are my favorite type of game. I think they could really make a neat experience have a heavy action orientated game but allowed for RPG element to shine through advancing though the chapters.
dnuggs40
Obviously some very key differences but I wanted a 40K Space Marine A-RPG over a year ago and now I get one :D
