Vaios tend be slightly overpriced (in terms of value of its hardware), but it does make up for it, to an extent, with its aesthetics.

They do have a bit of a price premium, that's for sure. Of course, there's too many variables when making a value assessment on a notebook. If you tick off all the upgrade options direct from the manufacturer, it's bound to be horrendously overpriced no matter who you go to. There are also other factors that tend to be overlooked, like build quality (one of the stronger points of business-class notebooks), screen quality (on the off chance that the notebook you're considering isn't using yet another cheap TN panel), ergonomics (keyboard feel, trackpad positioning and size, presence/absence of TrackPoint), and so forth. Anyway, what would you do with a new notebook?

Vaio's are definitely overpriced. But they definitely offer quality in terms of hardware. You won't have to worry about cheap parts or things breaking down. Then again, you are paying a premium for the name and the peace of mind.

Why are you sick of Apple? It's tough to recommend another laptop if no one knows your problem... If you just want to say I spent a lot of money on this, then get another Apple :P

Vaios are insanely overpriced - I've seen ones in stores that are more expensive than comparable Macs, and you get inferior build quality and less software. I've always wondered who the market for high end Sony laptops is - they don't have the brand cache that Macs do, or the other things that make them appeal to people (like ease of use), they're just overpriced generic Windows laptops. They're not even any more reliable than other brands - they're about on par with Macs and worse than Asus and Toshiba (at least, the last time a study like that was done).
