Okay so after getting my new rig, all ive been looking for are good rts games, ive only got World in Conflict and Red Alert 3 and have played many other games such as Sid Meiers

rts games. But so far i havnt liked any as much as i liked Age of Mythology. Im open to anything to do with games any genres, any king of rts or even fps even if its offtopic :D.

But anyway is it still worth it to play Starcraft today? Hows the story as i find it a very important factor in many games. Hows the interface? Is it simliar to building in and going

through ages such as in Age of Empires or it more like World in Conflict? Now what about Dawn of War? Is it more single unit focused or sending hundreds of soldiers to battle all

at once. Sorry for the wall of text but i would really like to know!!! Especially before i start school again :P

1) StarCraft's interface has been copied so many times, that it is pretty much a given standard. You gotta have a unit portrait, a little description, show how much damage it does, how much armor it has, then you got your basic commands.

2) StarCraft's storyline is pretty good, considering it is 11 years old.

Starcraft has been the only game that I still find myself playing after 10years of gaming. So yes I think it is a great game. However some people can't get into older games because they are simply graphic whores.

You do know that some elements of gameplay outdate over time, right? Not everyone who dislikes 90s/80s games are graphics whores.

To the TC: considering that Starcraft costs about 5 bucks right now (+ another 5 for Brood War), yeah, it's definitely worth a try.

I can't find it anywhere for that cheap. Where have you seen SC at such a price?

Hundred of Units: Total Annihilation

Story: Homeworld

Unit Management: DoW

I personally wouldn't get starcraft. The units require a massive amount of microing and are simply retared if you don't micro them. I found the storyline somewhat entertaining, but I didn't understand wth was going on 90% of the time. The graphics force you to play in 640x480, which is annoying when you have a 24" LCD.

Dawn of War: yes, great visuals and modern interface

Starcraft: no, there is a reason that no modern game is lacking any sort of unit intelligence and control

You can't change any graphical settings. 640x480 is the only resolution you can play at. Blizzard thought it was the only way to make online competition fair.

Come on ppl are u serious about startcraft it 2D ffs.I played it some years back and even then i couldnt figure out whats the umits and whats the rocks and grounf i mean its literally ANCIENT go play pacman dude. Yours units dont have basic availabilities like formation or agressiveness and when they see a enemy unit they run behind it till they reach the enemies defences while u are building its classic glisth for online playing.About dwan of war it has even now a very different system about resources and units (i mean the unit just no spawn from a building usuallt they come by space --thats new--) the graphic are nice until these days and its very statedic game with full commands for your uunits about formation and stuff and they go on groups whixh is realistic ( i mean does soldier just runs around out of the base in real life)

Dawn of War is still a very enjoyable game (and even more so if you like the 40k universe) It is not a game about massive armies, it is somewhat easy to keep track of basicly all your units, partly because of awesome sound cue's.

I would state that DoW is the first of Modern RTS games, altho it ofcourse is a strange statement since rts always evolve. (hard unit counters, and powerful armor)

Starcraft is pretty much the grandfarther of successful RTS, (well it is pretty much locked into eternal combat with C&C) It was sleek, beautiful, good music, and decent story.

By todays standards its mechanics is a bit lacking, the story still holds up, but techtrees and such may seem limited, if you playied alot of RTS.

It can be VERY refreshing to play it tho, since it seems so innocent... no complications, no quirky coding mishaps, just pure fun...

I do not however like the massing of troops in the game, a fairly large number of troops that can be somewhat unwieldy.

Starcraft is a fun game if you have the time to put into it. I used to be good at it but can't play it anymore because of the skill ceiling. If you have ever played CS 1.6 or Quake 3 you know what I mean.

1) Starcraft's graphics have not aged well. It's not being a graphics whore to say that; they simply were not that advanced even at the time, and are archaic now. 2) Dawn of War is definitely worth getting. The story is phenomenal and the engine is powerful. You will have plenty of fun with this one, and it's far easier on the eyes.

You should get Starcraft now.
