im building an old computer(prolly 4 years old) and i wanted to swap one of those telephone like cards, for a usb card but i don't know if the computer would need that slot since its taking up space, also my brand hp media center has one of those so i was wondering why they have the old technology.

I would imagine most new computers still include a 56k modem to insure compatibility. Seeing as high speed isn't availible in all areas yet. So i mean, if you use high speed then i wouldn't bother putting in a 56k modem.

They can be used for sending faxes also. If that's at all important. I've had touse a dial-up modem on those rare occasions where my highspeed was down. That doesn't happen often at all though.
