here's my story, my bro is giving me his 37' LCD HDTV for free, although the catch is that it's broken. the screen flickered on and off, and now it doesnt even turn on. is there any place i could go to (big name stores in US that is) to get it fixed, i'm totally fine with spending like 400 bucks to get it fixed since it's like 1 grand for a new one (according to best buy)

Like he said, call the company first.

The main problem is, there are very few companies that are in the business of repairing TV's especially HDTVs.

If you're in a large town or city you may have better luck searching for a local tech shop that repairs misc. electronics. I know we have a TV VCR Camcorder repair shop locally, but I'd be surprised if he repairs HDTV's. The test board/panels, last I checked, used to be expensive. I'm sure they have dropped in price, but they were out rageous a few years ago.

I don't think you can get an HDTV repaired, But if you are in warranty, your in luck, but if your not in warranty, you could try sending it to the company that made it and they might have it refurbished, which costs as much as buying a new one, or it may be the parts specific prices, or they might send you an entirely new TV, for the price of a new one, but warranty, can get you a new one from where you purchased it at (I'm sure you already know that but still) or if you like that specific TV alot, that you don't want a replacement, try sending it to the guys that made it, with some information on what you desire to be done with it, and they'll see what they can do, and if your lucky, they may tell you that they can refurbish it, and you may be even more lucky if they say that you yourself has to buy the specific part it needs, (don't worry, there not cheating you out of your money, it's there job, they need to make money, because free part replacements wouldn't exactly be, you know fair to them) if it works out ok, the your set to go.

I say, give it a shot. ( Only if you feel like it, of course. )
