are there ANY good combat flight games?

I really like games like the old Red Baron, and star wars Xwing vs Tie Fighter, and id love a GOOD WWII combat flight game. it just seems they are all either WAY too technical and boring, or have terrible graphics... like the ground and building graphics are almost 2D and make me wince. Are there any good dogfighting games that dont look like crap? ive seen like IL2 Sturmovik and Pacific Fighters, but the visuals look pretty bad... anything genuinley good out there? thanks!

-Rise of Flight. At least I think that was the name, just came out not to long ago. it is a WW1 sim. Looks absolutely amazing. Not sure but it may only be digital download only. Been awhile since I was informed about it. Might have to look it up agian this weekend.

-IL-2. Check out the UBI forum for screen shots of IL-2. I think you would be suprised to see that with some tweeking, IL-2 looks wonderful. Sure its does not have "god rays" and all the technical bells and whistles it still has some great visuals. There is also some mods that add more ground objects, plane skins, smoke and a slew of other player made content that has probably doubled the visuals to the base game, as well as other improvements.

You can also set the flight model around 16 variables. Such things as trims, heat, black/redouts and others.

Steam sells it for 20$ and you can find it in DVD format in stores sometimes for the same price, at least I did at EBgames awhile ago. IL-2 also includes all the past flight games from them, like Pacific Fighters. So no need to look at the older ones.

-Battle of Britian 2 is pretty good also.

The game actually consists of being commander of the airforce and piloting whatever missions you want. Amazing battles with 200+ planes. This game although rather old is still pretty good imo, and offers a better single player game than IL-2, without adding player made missions. As the ammount planes and ground objects you destroy, or you lose, affects the whole games outcome. You will see massive ground fronts moving across the world map each turn, taking or loosing ground. As well you get to play either side of the campaign. Same adjustable flight model settings like IL-2, so you can go from, just off the farm settings to vet and anything inbetween. Think this was 20usd also from Shockwave.

Il-2 and Pacific fighters, as dated as the graphics may be, are the best WWII combat flight simulators on the market. I've been looking for a recent WWII flight simulator that isn't arcadish for awhile and IL-2 is still the only game on the market that satisfies my taste in combat flight simulators. The game is complex, but the first time you shoot off someone's wing... it's very rewarding to say the least. The community is also very friendly and respectful.
