Get mine, for $2299 on Dell, it'll ship with a Core 2 Duo and Vista as mine is a tad old, but just as powerful.

I get about 45FPS running Oblivion on High 1980x1200 2XAA

You should be able to price out a Dell Inspiron 9400 (or E1705 depending on where you live) for roughly $1500, and it will happily run Oblivions.

It'll also be a bit on the big side, and if you're limiting it to $1500 you won't be getting the screen upgrade (1920x1200 versus 1440x900, plus a glossy finish). Still, it's a great laptop for the price, even if that price has inflated somewhat over the past few months. For some reason the cost of getting one with the same specs as mine ('cept a Core 2 Duo instead of a Core Duo) is higher now than it was last summer. Go figure.
