i have never had any problems running games from Xfire.....are you running the latest version? try updating Xfire to be safe. if that doesn't work, I would try re-installing CS:S and then see if it works correctly. If worse comes to worse, try googling your problem and see if anyone has experienced the same issues and how they fixed it.
i never cant join servers from xfire (cod4 and bf2). i always have to go into the game and join via the game´s browser. its a bit annoying cause i want to join servers my friends play at.
