Are there any *realistic* RTS/RTT games?

By realistic, I don't mean modern day btw, can be in the future or past if necessary. I mean actual realistic damage. All the ones I've played have been some unit does x damage and another unit has y health. That's not fun at all, it's just a slug fest where you have to shoot each unit a certain number of times. And it usually results in spamming.

Anyway are there any games out there that have realistic damage models (e.g. shoot a tank in the front it fails to penetrate, hit the top near the engine and the engine stops working, shoot a man once he dies), and realistic units (e.g. ATGMs that actually go 2+ km, and sometimes miss, not crappy little missiles with a range of 50 metres that can kill any tank in a certain number of hits)? I don't like this rock paper scissors gameplay which usually results in vehicle spamming with powerful infantry.

The only game I really play is World War II Online: Battleground Europe, an extremely realistic MMOFPS with extreme realism (e.g. sometimes a tank shell won't go through the thick armoru of another tank, sometimes it goes through and calls loadsof spall, killing the crew, sometimes it's so powerful it sails right through both sides of armour without damaging much), and I can't go back to this crap rock paper scissors damage/hit points system.

Dwarf Fortress and Mount And Blade is the closest I can think of, but neither are RTS/RTT.

haven't been able to find any on google so far, I bet tehre aren't any. I mean why bring out a realistic game that would seel twice as well if you could bring out 3 rock paper scissors number counting games in the same amount of time?

You can try ArmA 2. It has an RTS mode to it, kinda. The mods certainly expanded upon it. It looks pretty cool actually.

not an RTS/RTT though. Doesn't have much over BGE either, it's the same thing on a much smaller map. BGE is a full size map of western europe

Men of War? I haven't played it but it seems realistic.

For example when a tank shoots another tank it can do things like disable its engine, tracks, guns or the thing entirely. Crews can also fix damaged tanks.

Company of heroes kinda fits that bill.. I never got much into it but you can knock out tanks by hitting there tracks, engine, turret etc. and sometimes your missiles wont even scratch the things.

Oh and I'm pretty sure Codename Panzers was quite good as well vehicles even had limited ammunition, not sure about the damage though. The originals though, apparently the new one Cold War is quite bad.

WiC? The only unreal thing I notice is the damage radius of the nuke.

Isn't Total War series pretty realistic?

I havn't played any of them yet as I don't really get into RTS all that much. But I planned on picking up the Bundle on STEAM because it looks a bit different then most.

This is true, I've launched several mortars at a tank and it landed right on top of em, and didn't do spamming damage like the TC says he doesn't like. COH is the only one I can think of.

another vote for CoH, machineguns and snipers chew inf up fast (often 1 shot kills) and when a shot doessnt kill, there is a visual reason for it (the guy took cover or other

The game still has healthbars, and not completely realistic, but I cant find any other RTS that is as realistic as it is. Heck Using Artillery somehow seems like a dirty tactic in that game, since it pretty much obliterates anything

I would perhaps recommend a game called Blitzkrieg, and I think theres also a sequel out there with a 2 on. its fearly old though not to old to kill it for you I belive. The game is decent and there is many features and stuff to use and I have come to belive its kidna hard, though its been a couple of years since I played them. Just something for you to look into.

Men of War craps all over Company of Heroes regarding realism.
