no. most shooters nowadays are terrible. im still playing cod4 as my main shooter. planetside 2 looks great but youll have to wait for it.

other than that there is tribes ascend which is free but you pay for upgrades with real money (or earn them very slowly). it can be fun but imo horribly balanced with a bad meta game for a shooter. ie its not designed with alot of experience in the genre. ie, you spend alot of time doing nothing interesting, the guns are spammy and almost all AOE with massive knockback and the new guns are almost always overpowered at launch so people buy them with real money for an advantage.

The most recent multiplayer team-based shooter I can think of is Team Fortress 2. It's free, go try it out.

BF3 and Red Orchestra 2 are all I need. One is faster and more over the top while the other is slower methodical and very realistic at times

No, not really, i'm more of the single player guy I have already tried Tribes, not really a fan of the setting.

Fear 3 is on sale for $8 on Steam right now... got decent reviews, and the co-op looks neat.

Well, I'd recommend Nexuiz (Paid version, it's f***ing dead but bots make it fun enough), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive when it comes out, Tribes Ascend can be fun if your team isn't a bunch of sillies (and Planetside 2 will probably be the same), and Borderlands 2 will be amazing, might pick up BL1 if you haven't yet.

I played the demo for Sniper Elite V2 and enjoyed it. I recommend playing the demo first to see if you like it. The AI's not the greatest, and stealth doesn't always work, but there's still some good fun to be had there. I intend to pick up that game when it lowers in price.

Another third person shooter coming soon is Spec Ops: The Line, and I tried the demo yesterday. Okay for a typical third person cover shooter, but the story might be a bit more interesting. If they had included some good squad control mechanics, it could have been a lot better.

DayZ is absolutely worth checking out. It's a shooter/survival RPG mod that runs on ArmA 2 Combined Operations (you probably already have this game). Check it out if you haven't yet, it's a hell of a ride as many here will agree! DayZ

Ok cool, in that case let me recommend some that also include slightly older games you may have overlooked. I apologize in advance if any of these are painfully obvious, but I try not to make assumptions about others - Gears of War, the Red Faction series, the Fear series, Dead Space 1 and 2.... that's all I can think of at the moment, I'm really drawing a blank here! As far as some games I haven't tried yet but saw reviews of on YouTube - maybe Serious Sam 3, maybe Hard Reset, and maybe Painkiller.

I have Sniper Elite V2 and personally I really like it. Single player can be quite challenging on higher difficulties. The AL does have the usual tendencies of being dumb, but for the most part they put up a good fight. Best single player campaign I've played in a shooter based game in awhile. Multiplayer I enjoy also, but be warned! Since it's a "sniper" game, it usually becomes camp fest's which still are challenging, just not run-n- gun action. It's actually a nice break from some of the BS you put up with in CoD and BF games.

I think i'll give Gears a go, and Painkiller Dead Space and Red Faction i loved and completed The other ones just didn't do it for me :( specially F.E.A.R.)

Gears of War is great. Come back and tell me you agree once you've given it a spin. I bought it awhile back somewhere for like $10 after it'd already been out for a year or so, it would still be a great game if I played it for the first time today. I agree that F.E.A.R. was a little overrated, as it felt a bit stiff, but you gotta be open-minded and focused. Put the headphones on and let your imagination play its part. I thought it was a cool game.

Mount and Blade Warband Napoleonic Wars!!! Honestly, if the idea of these 'modern' shooters where everyones SuperHuman#21400, with regenerating health and where everyone is so serious annoys you. I urge you to give Napoleonic Wars a look. Here's a good review:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTnJXZ8LDG8&feature=plcp I'll just list some features I find make the game amazing! 0.5 Had to put this at the top!!! 200 Player Servers. 200 F****** players on the one map, shooting each other in intense battles! 1. The weapons: The muskets are just so much fun, knowing that you may not hit (Because they are inaccurate), and then once you've fired the tenseness of sitting there, reloading for 6 or so seconds while theres people firing on your, people charging your position etc. It's really fun and while the first few times you die, you'll be like "WTF", once you get a hang of the firing, reloading and when to change to melee and bayonet people and when not to etc. You'll be having a great time. But foot soldiers with muskets aren't the only cool thing! You can be Cavalry (Horsemen) and either ride around slicing people in half or shooting muskets from horseback, you can also be artillery and arm, reload and fire cannons, rockets, mortars and more. You've also got the Engineer class, and as this class you can build sandbags, wooden structures and even explosives. But, thats not all!!! Whats a game about shooting people without some musicians? Thats right, nearly every class has an option that you can choose and this means you switch your musket/sword etc. For either a Horn, flute, drum or trumpet! Now why would anyone do that? Well apart from being amazing fun walking around a battlefield playing a happy song while Team mates and enemies die around you, you also give nearby team mates buffs like faster reload or better aim. 2. The Multi-player mods: After that paragraph I'll keep this short. The modes go as follows - Battle Mode, each player spawns as the class of their choosing,in one of the two teams. Each player has one life only for the round. So once you're dead, its spectator time (Or you can go afk) This mode is amazing fun. - Siege mode, one team defends a castle while the other has to breach it and capture it. Also very fun! - Team Death Match, just your standard two teams Vs each other, infinite re spawns. - Battle Mode - Each player is giving 20 troops of their choosing, these troops are bots and you command them while staying in third person. It's a strategy game this one! 3. The range of things available for the price! The game has 5 nations, each with different types of troops and different outfits. With more than 220 units to choose from! The game also comes with some amazing maps and the friendliest community! 4. Line Battles If you find yourself enjoying the game, you should seek a regiment. Once you are part of a regiment (Clan) you participate in HUGE Line battles where the leader of your regiment takes charge and you follow orders. It's great fun and builds relationships! And don't forget: 200 Player Servers. 200 F****** players on the one map, shooting each other in intense battles!
