Are there any WoW-style RPG's for single play action?

I recently hit a brick wall in WoW and decided id rather spend my time at work trying something else out. Is there anything similar in playstyle to WoW that doesn't involve paying to play and having to be online?

Not looking for an FPS (for some reason they give me incredibly bad nausea as of late) but something that is 3rd person and maybe even along the same need for system specs as WoW.

Probably a longshot but im hopeful someone out theres know something! I've tried to do a few searches on google but I never come up with anything.

Appreciate any info on this!

Guild wars would be the closest thing. It's online and free, and you can play most of the game SP.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion!
It's pure SP and HUGE in every aspect of the word.

And the game is both 1st and 3rd person. So it's up to you.

It feels like the smallest game in the series, actually (only Morrowind was smaller, but that felt much larger than Oblivion), and has the least content.
Still, if you're into WoW, I guess it might be a decent choice.

Well wow is a game made for the hardcore, and for those who like to waiste their foolish time playing it. I sugest Oblivion. Its just as pointless as Wow.

lol, for a game that is made to target all players, beside the end game raid and dungeons, that is a pretty board statement. After all, how can WoW be the way it is right now if its target was but a small percentage of the population?

edit: almost forgot, there's not really any games w/ visual similar to WoW, but gameworld wise the elderscroll series and gothics both have very large and detailed game world. RPG element wise you can consider NWN or KoTOR.

Hmm...I think I'd agree with that. Certainly, the guys who are max level and do raids, etc. are 'hardcore', but I'd bet that a majority of the subscribers are fairly casual

That still makes Oblivion a good choice, since it's a fairly casual RPG (not much depth, a bit too simplistic, but still enjoyable).

Morrowind or Oblivion would probably be the best choices for SP.

As for the idea of WoW being "hardcore", out of all the mmo's I've played (EQ, EQ2, CoV, WoW, SWG, and LoTR to name a few) WoW is BY FAR the least hardcore. My main in EQ 1 had around 100 days (that's 100 times 24 hours real time) logged within 2 years (I never used him in the bazaar). I was no where near as powerful as the hardcore EQ players.

I had level 60 and had some of the best gear (pre BC) in the game in less then 40 days in WoW.
