I pretty much figured out everything else about my computer except for the CPU and GPU. And judging by what those are maybe I would have to change the motherboard.

This is the CPU I was thinking of getting:

AMD Athlon II X3 440 Rana 3.0GHzhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103843

And heres the GPU:

Radeon HD 5770 1GB OC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125327

basicaly, this is what I had lined up for my 500 dollar range PC im trying to make. I dont care about running Crysis on High or Ultra, but I would like to maybe run SC 2 on medium or maybe even high. Ultra would be nice, but im not expecting that with this card.

There was also this GPU that wasnt much mroe expensive then the 5770: GeForce GTX 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130562&cm_re=Nvidia_GTX460-_-14-130-562-_-Product

What do you guys think?

Good enough although i suggest giving an extra $50 and get a quad core AMD ( that way you will make your PC future proof ) As for SC2 with that graphics card not only you will be able to play it on ultra but you will be able to play it on ultra at 1080p and 60fps In fact you should be able to play even Crysis at very high settings at 1680x1050 ( withough AA though ) and still getting 30-35fps ( for the money asking its probably the best card on its category)

Not sure why i would want to overclock. I dont think I would find a use for it being a casual kinda gamer on PC. Im really not planning on making this my main platform right now.

So perhaps you'll consider the AMD 945 and a GTX 460 1GB,

Well, is that GTX worth the price difference between it and the 5770 I posted? I mean, its kinda pricy-er. Wouldnt that put me abovethe 500 dollar budget quite a bit because thats not even including OS. Also, if I did go with this CPU adn GPU, what am I going to need to change in order to get them to work right? Get a bigger PSU,different motherboard, and etc.

Either go for quad core for a little more or get a dual and a better card.

The price point for the GTX 460 is really a great value. It's the best bang for your buck, really. There is a $76 difference with the 1GB version, and a $46 difference with the 768mb version. The difference in framerates are pretty huge, but by no means would you be struggling in games with the 5770.

Well, this is where im torn. I assume that Quad core you linked is quite a bit better then the 3 core I posted, correct? but is it worth the 60 dollars plus difference between it and the 3 core I posted given my desires for this computer which I posted? Also, while that GTX is a better value, is it really worth that extra 50 plus dollars compared to the 5770? Part of me wants to be future proof somewhat, but also theirs a part of me that really wants a gaming computer that can fill his needs as fast and as cheap as he can because he dosent have a job right now. To reiterate, my desire on this computer are to play SC 2, WoW, Diablo 3, and Old Republic at medium or maybe even high or more, old PC games that go on steam sale for cheap in the future, morrowind with high res texture mods, and new games coming up that I see would be better to play on PC then my console. Like I said, right now im not planning on making this my main platform. Also, keep in mind we are not including OS and Anti Virus Software, which could run me upwards of like another 200 dollars.

Also, lets say i can only pick one thing to change from this build and replace it with what you suggested, what would the best thing be probaly? Teh CPU or the GPU? also, am I going to need to make adjustments to my PSU and my motherboard to accomadate said change?

No its not. 5770 still is. $139.99 / 77% = $181.81. GTX 460 costs more than that.
.
Lol, it's SC2 not Crysis. A 5770 will easily plow through it. If you're a casual gamer and will mainly be playing SC2 (it's a RTS game anyway, meaning it will depend more on the CPU) then I recommend this setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDX945WFGMBOX

GIGABYTE GV-R485OC-1GH Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Same price as yours but definitely better all around.
