i need to know if the radeon 6870 will be compatible with all of my parts.

intel pentium dual core 2.8GHz, 4 GB ddr2 ram, a micro btx motherboard, and a mini tower case

if i buy the 6870, a mid tower case and a decent PSU, will everything fit together and be compatible

Is the mother board DDR2? Does this mobo have a pci-express slot? If yes to these 2 questions, you will be ok, but why bother with a BTX board if you are getting a mid tower case? And is this case compatible with BTX?

yes, my motherboard supports upto ddr2 ram, and im almost certain that it has a pci express slot. what does a btx motherboard even mean? and the reason i want a mid tower case is so that the graphics card can fit inside of it. but is the motherboard big enough to hold the graphics card?

Depends on the game, if it is optimized for Quad Cores then you may be holding back the GPU but 90% of the time you wont have problem. Overclocking your CPU would help though.

since battlefield 3 is a CPU intensive game, will bottlenecking be an issue in this game? will i see a signifcant decrease in performance?

It may physically work but i'm not sure how well. Overheating could be an issue in summer and the CPU could cause issues. You haven't listed the motherboard so it'll be impossible to give a yes or no, also you may want to note that you'll have to be extremely lucky to find a good BTX case. Post a DxDiag (type dxdiag in run or win7/vista search bar > save all information > copy and paste contents of .txt)
