Are these temps too high?

Hey I've got a fairly new gaming PC and my temp for the CPU runs at about 40 idle and 65 on load. My graphics card runs on about 31 idle and 59 on load. My specs are:

System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: X58-USB3
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.1GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 6142MB RAM

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

I have this case and thought it would stay fairly cool. The CPU has the stock cooler and the brand of the graphics card is Gigabyte. I am using Core Temp to check my temps for the CPU. I thought it was an alright temperature but I saw my mates pc and his core runs around 20 idle but he has an aftermarket cooler so yeah I might invest in one if it is needed. Nothing is overclocked either.

Given you are using the stock cooler I'm actually surprised your 950's load temp is only 65°c, what are you using to stress it?

And your GPU temp is good.

To stress it I've only been playing games like Crysis 2 and heaven benchmark. It's good to hear its at a normal temp.

In that case, your load is a bit high. Not sure if that's normal for an i7 on stock cooler, or not.

Those are more stessing on the GPU than CPU. Try something like prime95 and you'll get a much higher temperature. I would recommend getting a better cooler anyway, your system is great and deserves one. You can get great coolers like the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for barely any money. It'll make your cpu way cooler but also much quieter, and you'll be able to overclock if you want.

40C idle is normal for a stock i7. With an aftermarket cooler though you can OC that thing and still get better temps (I'm at 36C now with room temp at 70F and fans set to low)

@kraken2109 thats the cooler my friend is using and I am thinking about getting it. The only problem is I have one fan at the top just above the cpu and I'm wondering whether that aftercooler would be able to fit with the fan still in place. I also was wondering whether it is difficult to install one since I haven't before.

Depends on what the distance to the cooler from the fan is. But mounted with the direction from the fan againts the topfan in the case usally works fine if you dont have the CPUsocket very near the ram modules.

Measure the distance from the centre of your cooler to the top fan and compare that to the width of the 212+ divided by 2, that will tell you if you have enough room.

I did this before I purchased my cooler, as I do not have a lot of room.

Don't know where you socket is placed compared to the one in this guys PC, but here is a pic of your case + the 212+.

There looks to be about 20mm of space between the heatsink and the top fans, so unless your socket is high up on the motherboard, you should be fine.

(read i7-950), Perfectly normal. The i7's run kinda hot so you shouldn't be worried. Invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler like Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for price/cooling performance. But I would recommend a Coolermaster V6 if you can afford one.
