There's not 100% correct method. Some people prefer to do the minimum for a POST (processor, motherboard, RAM, and graphics card), flash their BIOS/update SATA/RAID drivers, then go ahead and install the optical drive, hard drive, sound card, etc. If you're going to set up RAID and/or a partition, don't forget to do that before you install your OS. For drivers, I like to get my internet working first, and then do my drivers that way rather than using the discs, so I can be sure I have the lastest versions. I'll also install all my spyware/virus software before I download anything, just to make sure. I'll usually go through and disable/uninstall any services I don't need at this point as well.

Doh, you forgot the most important step. Between installing all of the parts and turning on the pc:

1) Put on wool socks

2) Take computer to carpeted area

3) Dance like crazy to celebrate your newly built computer (make sure to rub feet on floor for good luck)

4) Rub hands all over your major components (motherboard, video card, ram sticks, hard drive)

Works just as well with a magnet in hand too!

:P
