No I said the FIRST ONE sucked and I can't see the second one being any better. Ass Creed is a typical console game which is probably why I don't like it now the steps that Ubisoft are doing do not exactly convince me that they have changed the game for the better. I seriously have to wonder why Ubisoft are even bothering with Ass Creed 2 on the PC. Especially with this massively invasive DRM they have effectively killed off any chance of decent sales on the PC.

Now judging from the poll here I can see I am not the only one that feels this way. What Ubisoft has done with the 4 month delay, the increased price and invasive DRM has effectively killed off Ass Creed on the PC but who wants to bet they will blame piracy for the low sales eh ?

charmingcharlie

No you said: "I am not intentionally boycotting Ass Creed 2 because of the draconian DRM. I am boycotting it on the grounds the game is crap anyway"

And the user and critical reviews show it is much improved game over its predecessor. Im willing to give it a chance.

Oh for the love of christ, look I was basing the fact Ass Creed 2 SUCKED because Ass Creed 1 sucked and from what I have seen of the gameplay and videos it will still SUCK. It still looks repetitive, it still looks mind numbingly DULL and it still looks like a crappy console game. Now you can say it has been improved as much as you like I am not going to spend £40 on your word, nor will I trust the damn reviews that seem well off the mark these days.

The first one was a crappy console game and was given a crappy quick porting to the PC. I have absolutely no doubt that Ass Creed 2 will be a crappy console game given a crappy quick porting job, they also added draconian DRM, jacked up the price this time and made us wait an extra 4 months.

Well truly speaking the problem is a bit more than that ... what if your connection devolops some issus or there is a problem with the ubi servers --- but unless they are total idiots I think ubisoft people must have thought something about such a situation

Even though the game was pushed back 4 months, had the price jacked up and had some stupid security measures added to it, i will still be buying this game.

At the end of the day, it's still a game that i really want to experience, I'm still looking forward to it, but after this i will expect no respect from Ubisoft towards the PC community, and will probably stay away from their future releases.

I usually have more games than one so if one would encounter such a problem or my connection was down Id just do something else. Its not a great tragedy. Be thankfull that the supposed anti piracy measures arent more invasive.

no what I meant was if you haven't saved for a while, if the connection is down you will not be able to save the game then. If you are used to save a lot or have lots of free time, then I guess that's not that big of a issue.

So without reading through the whole thread... this new game save thing is going to be in place for AC2 for PC?? It that confirmed?

And P.S. I have it for 360 and I let my Xbox Live account expire a few months ago and I can save games on the 360 without a network connection with no problem!

The first one...was given a crappy quick porting to the PC.

charmingcharlie

Simply untrue. On top of the visual improvements and DirectX 10 support, the PC version featured 4 bonus mission types. The graphic and control customization was well done. The game looked beautiful, played great, and had very few bugs. The only really "crappy quick porting" thing that it could be called on is the hoop jumping you have to do to exit the game...but it's such a rediculous oversight that it's more of a joke than a real problem. I ALT + F4 my way out of every game I can anyway.

Whether or not DirectX 10 support and the added mission types added anything great to the game is debatable, but it is obvious that AC1 was not "given a crappy quick porting to the PC."

Indeed.

It was a crappy quick delayed porting.

People complaining are fools.

$60? - It includes the dlc. So its still cheaper then the console version with dlc.

Having to be connected to the internet, and loose your connection? - go play another game untill it comes back on.

I mean come on, its not THAT big of a deal.

People have to stop justifying Ubisoft for their dumb DRM system. People wouldn't be able to pirate games if it weren't for cracking groups. And guess what!? cracking groups crack things.. thats what they do, and they do it for the heck of it. So the harder the game to crack, the more effort they'll put into it. So please Ubisoft (and other retarted people in the industry) stop blaming piracy for low sales and stop it with the magical DRM systems. You will not boost your sales nor deterr piracy. Oh, btw, No, no way in hell I'm getting this. I thought about it before knowing the pricetag; 60 bucks for a PC game that I'm not absolutely mad about is too much. Not to mention the hassle it means for someone with a crappy connection like mine to play a single player game online. Not worth it.

Then I'm going to remind you are complaining about complainers.

$60? - It includes the dlc. So its still cheaper then the console version with dlc.

If I wanted the DLC, I would have bought it.

It being cheaper than the console versions doesn't mean anything. Really, it doesn't mean ANTHING at all, it's just completely meaningless...mind explaining how is it in any way relevant to the topic?

Having to be connected to the internet, and loose your connection? - go play another game untill it comes back on.

Sorry, but if I buy a SINGLE-PLAYER game (where a connection is in no way relevant to the game itself) I want to be able to play it WHENEVER and WHEREVER I want. No "but"s or "if"s.

I mean come on, its not THAT big of a deal.

Are you still buying it in wake of the security news?

I for one am still buying it. The issue of having to be connected to the net is certainly odd for the SP but it shouldn't create too many problems at least for me.

Assassin's Creed on PC was the most Pirated game EVER. Idiots out there ruin it for everyone, thats all there is to it.

I have AC2 for the 360 and really like it. Mostly because it has REAL people and REAL place from 1400s Italy. And you can read a lot of the real info about it. I find that facinating and its the best part of the game.

Well done ubioft you destroyed the pc version sales of assasin's creed 2 on pc ("facepalms")

It was a Rainbox Six iirc, and it didn't get hacked because noone cared about it. In fact, it didn't even get in any "top 10 most popular game" lists even on its release date.

Sometime later, as soon as the rumors of it being unhackable started to spread, cracks begun to flow like from a waterfall.

Whether you like it or not - this system is going to be cracked, maybe even before it is actually released. Any further speculation is completely useless. Ubisoft is not the kind of company that "wins".

 The only ones who complain about anti piracy mehtods are us the buyers and not the pirates. The pirates dont give a damn about antipiracy methods. When the pirates get the game they disable the antipiracy methods and never have to rely on them like we do. Pirates dont have install limits, pirates dont need a disk to play, pirates dont need to activate the game online. Pirates dont use steam or any other programs that ask you to be in the internet to play. They disable all these and play without them. But the crap that someone can possibly run into with those copy protection methods and the whole inconvinience and frustration those methods have when they dont even work is what pisses me off!!

There will be an easy work around/crack for this. Expect this game to be pirated even more lmao. Developers will always screw the legitament customer over versus the pirate that might take 1-2 more days to code a crack for this.

Guess I've been lucky then. And yes I own every single game I have. Steam and Retail. I did encounter one issue with Crysis install limit before they released that deactivation tool. But it was painless where I hopped online and instant chatted to them and they reactivated for me within 3 minutes. I have all the so called bad things installed such as Securerom, DRM, Tages etc, and system is running without a problem.
Although I presonally would stillprefer to just have internet access to play rather than having all the other schemes installed.
I remember the good ole days where you race to the gamestore (no online buying back then), race home, put the disc in, and just enter a serial number that was printed in the manual (the days when good size manuals and reading existed). It was so easy and I always enjoying reading the manual while waiting for the game to install. Now with Steam it's just reading a percentage of your download.

Thats what i am talking about too. Gamedevelopers use complicated methods to fight piracy and stuff like drm. The thing is that all those things only cause needless inconveniences when they simply dont work. The game will be pirated like everything else, so whats the point of all these? Or why the game has to cost 60 bucks? That alone will encourage people to pirate it.

Understand developers are trying harder each time to stop piracy. Each new thing fails though. If I was a developer I would put hidden code in the game, where say at the end of a random mission (one in the first 15x say), it checks and verifies. If there is one tiny adjustment with that code, then the game stops. This wouldn't affect the legit ones at all, we wouldn't even know it's there.
But why not make it one step worse for piracy. It also removes critical system files, thus making that pirate PC useless without repair. I imagine it would be legal to do this, it's like using a taser against a criminal.

Everything fails, and those things you are talking about have been used and have been affected legit users too. Thats why there should not be a thing like "damaging the OS" you are talking about, because it can mess up legit users too!! Plus none of those things will make any pirate to buy the game. It will generate more hate towards the company for harming their pc.

I continue not to understand why they use all that crap. Cant they see that they get no results? Plus those things you are talking about about checking in a random mission...have been used in games and hackers have fixed them so there wont be any issues. You got to realize that there is a huge community of hackers that fix things like that? So when it comes down to it, all those things are innafective and they should stop using them and spend those money in something else like putting some effort into making the pc version more than a shameless port that most games are nowadays!

Anyway i still dont understand why i gotta have install limits on the pc but on the console i can share the disc with anyone i want!! At the end they just try to crap the pc version instead of making it better.

Operation Flashpoint and the Arma games used something like that. If the game wasn't legit, the game installation would slowly deteriorate. I don't know how well it worked, though.

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to create software that intentionally harms another person's computer. Besides, would it really be okay to taser some kid for shoplifting at a Gamestop?

Copying my post from other thread, Some more info on this :http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,703947/Ubisoft-interview-New-DRM-for-almost-all-forthcoming-games/News/ Good part : * Saves can be accessed from anywhere * Not CD/DVD required (not 100% sure) * No loss of savesgames :The saved games are stored both locally and on servers. It only synchronizes with the server when the game starts up and closes down. Not during the gameplay. If you lose the internet connection while synching or you abort the synch manually, next time you start or end the game, the synch will resume. Bad Part : * Internet connection required - Not a problem for me, but it can be an issue for others * Size of save games : Due to this storing the save games on server idea, Ubisoft will keep the size of the save games as small possible. While it should not e an issue for most games it can affect some games which need to save a lot of data (remember Deus Ex and it's saved games)

^ I hope they dont use that tactic in far cry 3. That game had alot of possible saving moments. Atleast i made alot of saves. I would like to have those saves organized. I dont trust ubisoft on this one. Infact i can bet that there will be bugs related to the saving with far cry 3 if they gonna use that tactic.

I don't mind having to be hooked up to the internet at all times since I am always connected to the internet when I game anyway. I would rather this than a more intrusive DRM that could mess up my system. The bigger problem I have is my enthusiasm for AC2 or lack there of. I thought the original was a pretty average game. I paid $10 for it so I can't complain too much but I highly doubt that I will invest $50-60 for the sequel without playing a demo first.

come on guys, dont you want to stay online the whole time? dont you want to pay 60$ for a sequel of a terrible game? dont you want to pay 60$ for a games that console gamers got fed up of it since they have been playing it for 3 months? but the most important thing is: dont you want to collect flagz? hundreds of them? this is pathetic. Sometimes people get cocky for nothing. AC2, whats the big idea anyway? its not like people are killing each other for it.

By all reports its supposed to improve greatly on the first game. And there's no flag collecting in this one I don't think.

The first was a good, repetitive game. This sequel in comparison is a very good, less repetitive game.

60$? Nope, dlc or no. Required internet connection? no, final verdict, no (might have reconsidered if only 1 time internet connection for verification).
