Everytime I install DirectX 9.0c, my computer freezes at start up whenever I click on the start tab at the bottom left or when I try to open an application. Anyone know how to help?

PS: I can post specs if needed

That is not a DX 9 card...

I suggest you enter windows safe mode by pressing F8 while windows boots and remove your videocard from your hardware list. Then let windows boot regular and see what windows comes up with. (drivers) Install that, or download the drivers from the net.

I don' think you need to have a "DX9" card to install DX9, just to take advantage of its features that are new since 8.x (and so on and so on)

might be wrong tho

Update your graphics card drivers. The drivers are the thing, and yes, say if you really did have a Voodoo 2 or 3 card, you couldn't use DX9, because there are no DX9 compliant drivers for it, for example.

From first hand expierence I can say that this is true. I have an older system running on DX 9 with a DX 8 compatible card. It does play games (to some extend) but the DX 9 features are disabled. But voodoo is soooooo old, I'm not sure it will be compatible with DX 9. Anyhow, judging by the videocard I assume he as a very old PC here so playing games is probably not required for him on this box. Therefor I recommended the original drivers and DX 6 or so. He probably runs Win 98 too...
