I'm considering getting one of these, and was hoping to get some info.

I've played the ARMA 2 demo, and it was pretty fun, my favourite part was definitely the scenario editor. However, the game itself was a little bit too hard for me, and I've heard Dragon Rising is more arcade-y. So, my real question is does Operation Flashpoint: DR have a scenario editor? If not, I'll be getting ARMA 2.

I'd have to say Operation Flashpoint is much better.

ARMA 2 is more of a simulator.

tbh I really enjoyed both games

OFP had its strengths; the singleplayer was really fun, and the game was well-polished.

However, the online is via matchmaking, and when it works, its fun...but due to the small community and poor networking, its a bit lame. Co-op is fun and all, just dont expect a lot

ARMA 2 is just...GRAND! EPIC! Huge! Up until the last patch, I would have recommended OFP, but ever since the team updated the game it was borderline broken and unplayable.

Online and offline is awesome, so my vote goes to ARMA 2.

At first thought :Operation flashpoint 2 because its more of a game than a simulator and its more polished plus more optimized. At second thought, arma 2 has been patched up verywell, it still has very requirements but the perfomance is improved and graphics are much better tha OPF2. Also maybe its more of a simulator but the difficulity in operation flashpoint 2 is random. I get in a car and i die. Nice, plus the few simplified console controls the game has dont help at all!! But anyway lets pick singleplayer, opf2 singleplayer is deathborring and storyless. Play arma 2, it has more "story in the compaign" Multiplayer, arma 2 because of dedicated servers. Extra and freeplay: Arma 2 because the quick missions in operation flashpoint 2 are nothing more than the compaign missions once unlocked, you cant choose weapons or make a battle without building it from scratch on the editor plus no mods at all!! Not even a tutorial levels to show you how to order your squad!

airshocker

yea this is a good analysis

ARMA 2 is a war simulator. It has a lot of replayability both online and with downloadable singleplayer missions. THe map editor is also excellent.

OFP is more of a typical action game, kinda like an open-world R6: Vegas of some sorts. Much more rigid in its structure, but thats not always a bad thing

I still prefer ARMA, the learning curve is just really, really steep

It's nice to see that you guys saw the ArmA 2 is better in the long run and now agree with me.

HANDS DOWN... ArmA2 wins.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm leaning towards Operation Flashpoint at the moment.

But I'm really most interested in the scenario editors of both games, I'm a big fan of making my own fun and the infinite replayability. Could anyone share some more details about the editors?

haha yea, that argument raged on for a while

but as I said, back then, if they fixed the game I would love it.

And they FIXED IT!

And I love it!

so yea, ArmA 2 hands down

OFP2 is too busy and clunky. Its like they took the editor the developers used and didnt refine it for the player

ArmA2 is elegant and easy, without sacrficing depth. Its like they took the editor the developers used and streamlined it so gamers can get up and going faster

With ArmA 2's editor, you can pretty much place a bunch of allied and enemy tanks around the map, make waypoints, and have a custom and epic tank battle in 5-10 minutes.

You were right, i was wrong. At first i thought opf2 had better singleplayer and it perfomed well. (I made no claim about mp and mods, those things were better in arma 2) later on i realized that the sp in opf2 was a cheap excuse with no story or a goal, just order and objectives to capture and kill. Also after a while i had trouble spotting enemies in the low detailed graphics of opf2!

I coulld see this happening ahead of time, from when I saw the developer interviews I was like this is sooooooo bad and I noticed the lack of the action menu and they didn't show off the editor. At that time I knew it wouldn't be anything like arma2 and will ultimately fail

I expected the game to have a better singleplayer compaign from arma 2 and less frustrating, but how they manage to did it so unimpressive, They cant sell it neither to pc or console gamers. But seriously, whats the deal with enemies taking 5 shots and in the "hardcore" difficulities taking more? Seriously thats the only difficulity diffirences the game developers came up with? Anyway Arma 2 is far better!

The mission editor in OFP DR is crap. It is there, but it is crap. Very useless. ArmA 2's on the other hand is extremely useful and highly customizable. If you learn how to install mods (really easy), there are literally millions of missions that can be made.

Dragon Rising was a disappointment to me... like Dakan said, how could they have made it so meh? I mean, it wasn't bad by any means, but it failed to impress me at all.

Whats sad to me is that the makers of Operation Flashpoint2 got a big budget and had so much more money to work with then the ARMA2 makers did.

Just imagine what the ARMA2 dudes could do with a big budget.

ARMA2 is one game that gets better with time imo, there are some awesome user made missions.
