Being a fan of the previous 2 titles I was looking forward to ARMA III.

So i got the ARMA III from Steam last monday and have to say I'm enjoying the game.. Surely there is room for more polish but hopefully thats what we'll get once the final game gets released..

So what are your thoughts and what do you think needs to be changed/fixed?

Very temped to pre-order it. Anyone know if the Alpha build will get updates, or will it be the same build till final release.

Honestly not sure if they will update the Alpha built, however i wouldnt exclude that.. Probably they might fix some problems for the Alpha built.

Considering it's in alpha stage, I'm very impressed. Lots of improvements made to the controls, more stances, better visuals. I think the next update will be the Beta coming

mid summer.

A playable fps would be nice. Seems like a good game though.

Which then also gives you an invitation to give to someone else IIRC. Its SP only, but it will give you a pretty good idea about how its going to be

For an alpha I thought it was way more polished then Arma 2. There seems to be a performance issue with the multiplayer though.

From the videos I've seen, it looks like a decent improvement.

Arma 2 when I played the demo had some flaws I felt in subtle stuff like how much the gun shakes when you fire it.

Mr_BillGates

Guess what ?  More realistic/tactical shooters are actually more fun to some ppl than running around with all the 12 year olds dying and respawining over & over in CoD.

A quick CoD killstreak is soon forgotten, replaced by the next one.
A special moment in Arma/OFP/GR1/Rogue Spear/SWAT games... will be remembered for a long time and is SOOOO much more rewarding, you just have to have some patience & wait for it to happen.

I'm absolutely loving this game so far. It has completely remedied all the UI issues to a great extent and the gunplay is now better than any other shooter I can possibly think of. The game is damn near a masterpiece in how the gunplay works and how deep the gameplay is. Can't wait to see the rest! Fingers crossed they can actually fix the performance issues!

Fun and realistic aren't mutually exclusive. Anyway, Arma 3 isn't a hardcore sim. It's a pretty good balance of realism and accessibility.

It needs some optimization and a better anti-cheat system, but the foundations of a really great game are in place. Its a really solid improvement over Arma 2 in terms of playability and user friendliness without sacraficing the depth of the previous games.

They have made some wonderful improvements. Mainly movement, animations and controls. It is so much easyier to move around now and do what you want to do, its not as clunky as previous games.

Im also getting better performance to (and the game looks better).

totally agree, the animations are way better compared to Arma 2... they feel more 'human' like...

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll just buy it. Was considering the "Supporter Edition", so I don't need to purchase future DLC. However they don't seem to know if there'll be any DLC and have said expansions won't be included. It'd probably be cheaper to buy the $33 game + DLC than spend $92 on the Supporter Edition. Not really interested in the other bonuses.

I opted into the development build and the game is getting updates quite regularly. No new content yet besides editor stuff but you can download user made  missions and what not from Armaholic.

I am liking it. I also hear that it is supposed to improve visually quite a bit before release. For example, it is still missing the weather effects.

I enjoy the lite version Kozzy gave me, some excellent tweaks and fixes.  The weather could use some work, or unless it's just the map...bit too blue IMO.  Quite good for an alpha, color me impressed

It can be pretty slow depending on the mission/game mode, but it can also be one of the most intense, stressful games I have ever played.

For instance, I was playing on a team deathmatch server. It was on a part of the map that had two hills on either side with a town in the middle. The players from the different teams spawn behind the hills and must run over them to get into the town. Getting down the hill is very challenging since you are exposed to enemy snipers on the opposite hill.

One time I managed to get down into the town and worked my way towards the enemy side. I got into one house and there were people firing all around me, a bunch of enemies ran past the house and I was totally stranded, but also in a excellent flanking position. Creeping around behind enemy lines taking out guys from behind with the knowledge that if I took one bullet it would be a long time before I could get back into a good position made it super intense, I was shaking and sweating the entire time until the match ended. At one point I was peering out of a window that had not had the glass broken yet. A bullet came flying down from the hill and took out the pane of glass right beside the one I was looking out, I quickly ducked down while a barrage of bullets smashed the rest of the glass while I crawled down the stairs and out of the building. I almost had a heart attack.

Getting shot at in Arma is bloody terrifying, no other game captures the feeling in the same way.

Boring is one word I would not describe ARMA as at all. Its probably teh most exciting shooter series ever for me personally, gets my heart pumping no other shooters.

I think the campaign could be a lot better in ARMA 3. The campaign is the previous games was pretty meh due to clunky presentation and REALLY bad voice acting. I played a couple of the single player missions in the alpha and they were pretty damn awesome.

Im not sure what the limitations are in the light version but it already looks like that on Alpha. The game uses TrueSky for its weather system like Take On Helicopters did and this comes complete with dynamic wind and gusts as well as thunder storms. The weather also affects the sea and its wave height.

Here are some screenshots I took that have clouds in them:

2 hours of gameplay so far and i'm loving it. Have never played Arma 2 so i can't compare them but so far i'm blown away by the visuals, they look amazing (and i'm not even close to maxing it out either) the gameplay seems smooth so far and feels great and this is just the Alpha stage so far.

Wow what else can i say? oh yes how can i forget the sounds are the best i've ever heard in a shooter game, the guns, helicopters hovering over your head and the surrounding environment all sound so realistic it really adds to the game. In conclusion let's just say i'm very impressed and definitely buying this one.

PS: Thanks again acanofcoke for giving me a code.
