Lets keep this thread to mainly ARMA2; Operation Arrowhead talk :)

Who all has it? Are you enjoying it? What are you playing... Multiplayer or singleplayer?

Me personally Im having a good time with it since I got it. They have made some ncie changes and fixes from ARMA2.

There is this one mission that isnt in the campaign, its just one mission that is a sniper one. You start on this huge mountain and you must plant 6 bombs on these 6 tanks at this base that is heavily guarded.. and its at night. Just so much fun. It did take me about 6 tries to finally do it but man was this a blast. It really felt like you are there alone and like you have to do things stealth. If anyone sees you or sees a body they will sound hte alarm. TO be honest this is one of the better stealth missions ive ever done in a videogame. I killed only a few people and veyr silently and stayed in the shadows, I then planted 2 of hte bombs and then crawled around there base looking for more bombs to place. I found them and then got all 6 planted and blew them up.

I thought the mission was done.. but no.. tons of back up is coming and im told I have to meet the helicopter up on this other mountain side... I look around and there are tons of enemys around me, so I go way off to the side and slowely mak my way up the oppposite mountain trying to get out of the way of the helicopters and lights they are using to try to find me. Was then about half way to my extractino point when a car pulled up 100 yards ahead of me so i ducked, they got out started to look around, I waited in the bush and then slowely crossed the road and went up the right mountain to meet my team.

I dont know why but this was just so intense to me this mission. Very stealth like and it felt sooooo good once I finally ocmpleted the mission. I wish this game had more of these killer stealth/sniper missions (:

Anyways, thats my story, here are some pics :)

I couldnt take any during the intense part because one shot and your dead, I just had to consentrate on getting out of there hehe.

Its nice that BI have put so much into this and ARMA2, and that the community has already made some ridicolous user made missions for this and ARMA2.

Post your thoughts on the game, fun moments, screenshots or what ever you want. ARMA2 fans unite 8)

The best in the series so far. I'm having a blast in the editor, I love the new simple support module, makes calling in artillery easy and fun.

Played that mission you mentioned, and god damn was it awesome. Another short but good one is the Laser Show mission - again a good deal of fun. My personal favorite part about Op Arrowhead is having all of the new US Army units availible in the editor- mixed with the old USMC, it really gives you a lot of possibilities. Awesome expansion. :D

Loving it so far, the campaign is less annoying than in ArmA 2 but still annoying. The Apache mission was frustrating because the missiles kept missing even while I had them targeted with the UAV. Then the next mission you have to command a squad and I'm not a fan of that so I think I'll just be in the editor from now on.

I'd love to get this game but I'm unsure whether there are people in my region that are playing the game so that I wouldn't have to join any laggy servers (South-East Asia region). I had this problem with Crysis Wars.

I just wanna know if anyone in the SEA who owns this game finds it easy to find a game in multiplayer mode.

Unfortunately the playerbase is almost exclusively American and European. The three languages I see on the server browser are English, French, and German and judging from the pings I'd say over half the servers are hosted out of Europe, the rest are United States.

I love the ArmA series even though I'm not very good with all of the complicated menu's and such. I usually make simple missions in the editor, just ambush the vehicles, sniping, etc. I'm trying to get some of my friends to gtfo Team Fortress 2 and buy ArmA 2 so I can play online with them. My credibility may be at stake, however, because I play more TF2 than ArmA 2 :D Anyway, I waited for a few patches before I bought ArmA and ArmA 2, so I will probably do the same here, although I heard it wasn't as buggy as the others.

Wow, who be this Daniel Shannon? He wrote a great review for Arrowhead on Gamespot. Really concise, simple and had a good overall flowgetting into why Arrowhead is an improvement.

But yeah, he's certainly another factor in making me skip Arma 2 and just going for this standalone expansion. The only thing that's holding me back is how much time it will take to learn it, I'm already trying to become good at Starcraft 2. :P

Single player the game is far to easy for me. I've been playing online co-op in 10+ man missions in ArmA and ArmA 2 for 3 years now. I use modifications like ACE and SLX to enhace the AI to make it somewhat of a challenge.

Operation Arrowhead is a great addition to the series. they took a lot of hints from the mod ACE and added them to the core gameplay (backpacks, more intense weapons, little things here and there). The new FLIR stuff is really and the new maps are excellent. The AI did get a small improvement but without SLX they are pretty much garbage.

Overall I enjoy it. I put many hours every week into the co-op maps and I make my own co-op missions for my squad to play. I find the singleplayer far to easy and far to easy to exploit. I get no satisfaction from playing single player missions.

Yeah i agree it seems easier. Maybe because i've been using Zeus AI mod for ACE2, so kinda got use to the AI kicking my behind :) Well at least there will be AI mods for Operation Arrowhead, like Zeus and Group FX.

I agree, that was a very well written review for Arrowhead, they should hire this guy and a few others to get the PC section up on its feet again :)

I tried the demo and all I could think was how much it seemed like a mod of a game and could not believe it was being sold in exchange for actual money.

Am i missing something here? It looked pretty whack, the movement was clunky as hell, as were the animations and the voice acting was plain terrible. Sounded like some guy had voiced it down in his basement at 3 in the morning.

Someone enlighten me!

The animations feel clunky because your character actually "exists" in the gameworld. For example, in COD your character is a 3d model that runs around and shoots when you press the left mouse button, in first person you are just a camera positioned inside this models body with a faux 3d model of a weapon in front of you, although it seems like your character is walking he is actually just a floating camera inside a model that is also floating over the ground. It allows for fluid movement but isn't an accurate depiction of how a person moves in real life.

Arma 2 attempts, sometimes well, and sometimes not so well, to simulate, key word: simulate, realistic combined arms warfare with infantry and vehicles working together in large scale operations. Your player's movement is dependent on animations, he has momentum, his body bumps into things, his gun even exists in the game world and smacks into things, its why you have to lower your weapon as you sidestep into a doorway. The voices have always been bad for a reason, it would cost far too much money to voice every possible combination and line of dialogue to make it sound fluid. The voices you here are less for flavor and more to transmit information (example: Enemy. MACHINEGUNNER! 5'Olock! 200 Meters) on a large battlefield where the terrain can constantly be different. It's not realistic to have the broken conversation like that but its necessary to keep informed on what's going on during a large battle.

Its the gameplay that shines in this game imo. Its the most realistic shooter on the market, its got fun coop, one of the best editors ever and TONS of user made missions.

Its definatly not for everyone, but for people like myself, its fantastic.

Also the game has been patched alot since the demo was out, it runs alot better now.

The only negative thing I can say about ARMA2/Operation Arrowhead is that the voice acting is bad, other then that its perfect for me personally.

So I usually dis the AI but I do have to say...

Arrowhead + SLX (the latest version) + WICT (a dynamic AI spawner) = dead in 45 seconds.

Never before have I taken so much fire from the AI effectively pinning me down. It was glorious.
