Around how much more is it to buy a prebuilt PC at a store than making your own? Or does it vary?

its alot of fun to to build your own too, then plus when you need to upgrade it, youll already know what your doingTH1Sx1SxSPARTASomeone gave me a link to a video on youtube by newegg that showed how to put a desktop together. I'm afraid i'll break some of those cords involved, they look somewhat hard to connect.

Only sorta tricky thing is the case to motherboard power on/off, restart switch etc but the manual clearly explains where to put them. I can gaurentee that if you buy a pre built in a few weeks you will regret it 100%, I sure as hell did. I paid £1k for my first PC and if I had built it myself I could have built one better for £500
mine would've been about $200 more in store, but add into the fact that I can upgrade it any whichway I please, I'll probably end up not having to buy (make) a new one for 5 or so years, as opposed to buiying a new prebuilt ever 3 or so years
It is not always cheaper to build you own pc, but you would get better parts.
For instance I want a Dell XPS X8300-7008NBK which is $899.99, and if I tried to build that on my own it is the same or alittle more depending on what I wanted for a mobo or ram and I would have to buy Win 7 since I don't have it now.
Best option if you don't want to build is to price out parts yourself and then pay to get it assembled. I know NCIX will assemble any parts you pick for $50 (and warranty it for a year), I assume some other online retailers will do the same.DJ_Lae

NOOOOOOOOOOOO
NEVER BEST BUY...
I said computer Shop, not large general electronic stores who sells prebuilt.
I don't know where you live, so I don't know what to recommend you, but by computer stores, I mean computer shops, who only deals with computers only, sells repair and do everything ONLY RELATED TO COMPUTERS
Frys?? I don't know this shop, don't have it where I live
Just called Best Buy, they don't do it any more. Dunno if i can get a family member to drive to Frys, if they even do it. Dunno if there are other stores in my area that can do it :(.[QUOTE="hydralisk86"]

Or where I live, there are so many computer stores, that you can choose all your parts, and they build it for you...
Still much cheaper than prebuilt and much better too.Idontremember

Why don't you just try and put it together yourself? There are hundreds of guides out there that give you step by step instructions. It's really not as complicated as your mind is making it out to be.

The $50 includes a 1 year warranty? That's pretty good; the labor is worth the 50 bucks alone IMO.

Yeah, not a bad deal for someone not interested in building the PC themselves. Hilariously, I think if you pick out parts that are worth more than $2000, they'll waive the assembly fee entirely.[QUOTE="GS550L"][QUOTE="DJ_Lae"]Best option if you don't want to build is to price out parts yourself and then pay to get it assembled. With my current system, I had a pretty hard time fitting everything in, partly because I had trouble fitting the smaller pieces of hardware with my large hands.
Though I probably wont be able to drop $2000 on my next system :P
