Although I know you're talking about Dark Souls, it's usually a good idea to at least mention the name of the game in the subject line.
That being said, there are Youtube strategy videos for pretty much every boss in the game.

You can dodge all of his attacks.man, this guy is kicking my butt and no one around to summon. any suggestions?

Be patient and learn ALL of his moves. All his attacks can be dodged but they have to be dodged differently. I would suggest leaving the DLC until later in the main game because it's quite hard if unprepared. Artorias is relentless.
thanks guys. i managed to drain half of his life after 10+ attempts but he gets me one way or another. dodging is quite challenging indeed. looks like for some you have to roll into him for some left, and some back. and timing is also important as if you roll early he follows and punishes.
it is sad that there are not really many people playing dark souls anymore. i did not see a single summon sign (or invasion), and i played as a human for nearly 3 hours.
He is actually pretty manageble, all you have to do is memorize his attack pattern, by doing this I killed him without even having a shield, I used a very light armor and CrystalHalberd.

It could be an issue with your network settings. Dark Souls PC doesn't have a huge playerbase, and some areas are more active than others, but I haven't had too many problems finding summons and invasions. The other night I reversed hollowing on my main in Oolacile Township and was literally invaded 5 seconds later, and then the same thing happened on my alt in Anor Londo a few hours later.
As for Artorias, as others have said it's a matter of learning his moveset and how to dodge them, like most bosses. His attacks are actually fairly easy to dodge once you have them down, I found him to be the easiest DLC boss. Also, when he starts to do his power-up, you can stagger him and interrupt it, so don't be afraid to rush in and attack him.
Get a good shield and just keep blocking, while you wait for an opening to attack. I've been doing this up to NG+8 and it's never failed.
question: when he does his "savage leaping strike" where he howls and jumps, is it better to roll early or wait until last second? i cant seem to find proper timing for that roll.

you roll the last secound...

Terrible advice if you are dex build, unless you are a heavy str/armor build you should not even use shield for this fight.

It's actually really good advice, even if that's not how you choose to kill him. I never said you couldn't kill him without a shield, so I don't know why you're trying to invalidate my advice by providing a picture of you killing him without one. The OP wanted a good strategy to kill Artorias but provided no information about his character, so instead of giving him some personalized advice based on the build of his character (which I know nothing about) I just gave him the strategy that I use. Obviously it's a good strategy if I'm able to kill Artorias at SL 90 on NG+8, having never lost to him a single time.
What level are you? Also what kind of build do you have?man, this guy is kicking my butt and no one around to summon. any suggestions?

actually i used his suggestion and beat him. when i look at youtube i see most of the walkthtoughs are beating without a shield (by dodging) dexterity or strength character. since you beat him very easily, why dont you make a video of beating him by blocking and countering. i think that would be a great service to community.

You used a Crystal Halberd to beat him?
Like some people have said, it really just depends on what your character's build is. You didn't (and still haven't) told us anything about your character (level? build?) so we could only make general suggestions to help you out. Blocking and countering works better than dodging in my experience when it comes to Artorias, so that's what I suggested. But again, since you wouldn't tell us your character's details, we had no way of knowing what method would work best for you. Dodging is usually the safe bet, you can kill any boss in the game at SL1 if you keep dodging, but there are easier ways of killing him depending on what kind of character you have.
My method is simple and doesn't require any kind of video. Grab yourself a decent shield (I'm using the Greatshield of Artorias +5), the Mask of the Child and the Cloranthy Ring for increased stamina regen. As long as your endurance is at a high enough level, you shouldn't have any problems blocking him and just waiting for an opening to attack. If you use a heavy weapon to stagger him, that helps as well. When he starts to do his little power-up routine, you can run up to him and stagger him by swinging a few times. Since I have an even spread of DEX and STR, I find the Zweihander helps quite a bit.
