Well, this already happened with Spore so this isn't much of a surprise. 21 out of 23 ratings are one star. Not a lot of love for Ubisoft's Orwellian DRM, it seems.

All rated by people who haven't played the game of course.
The game itself is magnificent. Those people, obviously, are rating the DRM, which I wouldn't even have known about if somebody hadn't told me. All this fuss over nothing. If these people are going to rate the DRM, which clearly they are, then they should at least man up and try it first.
For me, having to jump through hoops in order to install GTA 4 was much, much more troublesome. I had to fight like crazy to get the Rockstar social club to work properly. Then I had to fight like crazy to get Games For Windows Live to install - that was a good 2 day struggle. Finally I got GTA 4 working, after literally 3 days of searching through forums trying to solve my problem. Actually, AC2 wasn't troublesome at all. I mean, I've had zero problems here.
That said, if these people have played AC2, and are rating the game itself, then they're morons.
GTA4 is not that hard to install. And even if it was it isn't the same thing as assassins creed 2. Assassin's creed 2 is different as it is a pain to play it (from what I have seen/heard as I don't have it yet). I am still planning on getting it. I also heard something about they made a patch where if you dc when you reconnect it won't throw you back to your last save point. All rated by people who haven't played the game of course.

Nope the patch was made so that the game won't take you back to your last checkpoint, if your internet goes down. When you start it again it'll resume from your last position.
Anyway it's an outrageous system, don't care about any of my favorite series until this will be patched out, the only one I might consider getting is Conviction since it's also multiplayer, but games like PoP maybe even HoMM if they'll still use it at that time, have no use for such a DRM after/when the pirates will crack it, especially HoMM. Singleplayer games onlymust not require a constant internet connection to be able to play them, like MMOs, but those actually benefit from the internet.
you wouldnt have known about it until your internet cut out or skipped and OPPPPSAll rated by people who haven't played the game of course.

I played it on my PSthree and it is an amazing game, epic story and super exciting combat/exploring. but those amazonians are right as i would never buy this for my PC. DRM hurts the common man and not the pirates, its basically the same as laws of any kind. Turns righteous people into criminals over nothing, stupid money making schemes.
THIS drm is hurting the pirates. The so-called common man, meanwhile, is having a blast playing the frickin' game! WOOT! I know. If I even ever care enough to get the game (I wasn't too impressed with the first one, but apparently the second one is better), it will be a used copy on a console, which is perfectly legal. :P Ah, irony. Then you just lost my friend. Then you just lost my friend.WufusRainwrightIt has been on torrent sites for quite a while now, it was 'cracked' less than two days after its release.
The irony is pirates were playing the damn game when the Ubisoft servers were down for a day.
And hey the GameSpot review speaks for itself.

This is completely false. The game has not been cracked. You can get into the game but you can't advance. I'm surprised that you guy are continuing to post this.[QUOTE="WufusRainwright"] Yup, and I'm entitled to protest the protesters... and don't call me mate. madrocketeer... but even you must admit this DRM is a pain in the backside...
Since I actually have the game, and you don't, I can report my experiences with Assassin's Creed 2, having had it for 3 days now. And here are my experiences: The DRM itself is not noticeable at all. You launch the game and you see a small icon that says synchronizing game 3... 2... 1... then the game launches. That's it. That's the last you see of it.
As far as everyone else's experiences are concerned, I can't comment. And quite frankly, I don't care. When I buy a new game and bring it home I don't sit there thinking: 'Damn, this game works well for me on my system.... really well... but is everyone else having a similar experience... oh god, this game will be so bad if I end up having a great time but nobody else does.'
That's just pure nonsense.
So do I admit that the DRM is a pain in the backside? Um, no I don't. Here's what was a pain in the backside for me: Games For Windows Live, which took me two days to install. Here's another third-party application that caused me fits, years ago, when I was forced to install it, without any say in the matter at all: Steam. I ran Steam on day one in order to play Half Life 2 and it was an utter disaster. I was unable to play Half Life 2 for a good 3 days because of Steam. I was also extremely irritated that Steam was always running, even when I wasn't playing Half-Life 2. There it was in my start tray.
This DRM has been completely silent, and I've had no problems with it whatsoever, and don't call me mate.
the drm is part of the game and it is bs becasue u need internet to play this game, and the reviewers from amazon just say their opinion about it but they forgot the play content and that is disapointing from them NLahrenAlso, Amazon ratings are for the product as a whole. It's not as if it's a game journalism site.
DRM or not, the game is just boring. Too bad I can't get refund.
redneckdouglas
LOL I bought the game, came home saw the line: "A permanent Internet connection is required to play the game." went back to best buy to get my refund, so lucky I didnt open it.
Boycott Ubisoft!!! make sure to contact the customer support (In any way) and tell them they suck!!!!!!!!
Good for them, I hope Ubisoft removes this disgrace of "piracy protection". It doesn't matter to me though, I will never pay $60 for a PC game.gamerguy845
I totally agree. They are protecting their product and we are the ones, that are supposed to pay for that. The main reasons for pirating a game, in my opinion, are the "Price", "Copy protection" and "Quality" of the title (Lower quality increases piracy). And, sometimes price is usually affected by the copy protection used. I appreciate the time and effort put by Ubisoft in their games, but a lower price and a simple disc check or no protection at all (like in Prince Of Persia) would have been a better approach. It feels like they are trying to find an excuse to release titles exclusive for consoles, which basically resumes to PS3, since XBOX and PSP titles are also pirated. They were wrong when they released titles like Cold Fear and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for PC and in later Re-releases they removed the copy protection completely. I hope this will be the case for Assassin's Creed 2, because the sales for the PC version will sink.

Why shouldn't people rate the DRM? It is part of the product, it affects the product usability. If you bought a chair that you were forbidden to sell and had to call the manufacturer every time you wanted to sit on it to let them know that it really was YOUR chair, wouldn't you rate that 1 star too?
I find this DRM just as ridiculous as this scenario that I've just described and it ruins the entire product, no matter how good the game may be. I've experienced the DRM firsthand (haven't bought it, a clan colleague has it) and I find it difficult to believe that you "wouldn't have known about it". Obviously you don't think about why a game is demanding to know your full personal details and keeps saying that the connection has been lost (even today).

exactly. a broken item is still a broken item, and given the state of the Ubisoft servers, this is definately broken.
A Porsche might be a five-star car, but if it doesnt have a steering wheel then its not even worth one star.
