Hey guys, I recently installed Assassins Creed on my pc (Windows XP SP2) and a few levels into the game the map on which I was playing and all further maps for that matter were distorted (See url for a picture) http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7528/assassinscreedscrewed.png At first I thought it was my graphics drivers so I updated those but no change, I found it unlikely considering the game appeared fine before on previous levels and only after a certain point would it appear like this. I also find it very strange that elements of the screen appear to be fine (e.g. the image of the compass or the health bar in the top left) but the rest of the game appears as shown. My second thought was that the game files were corrupted at which point I reinstalled the game and the same occurred at the same point in the game. I even tried installing a friend's copy of the game and the same occurs. When installing the game the installation process checks that your system is suitable for the game and everything is supposedly ok. I've also run directx diagnosis and that's fine too. At this point I'm looking at the problem and not seeing any issues with my graphics card and it is unlikely that 2 seperate copies of the game are corrupted in exactly the same way. All in all I've run out of ideas. Help! Thanks.

could it be because the game was optimized for direct x10? also,, it doesn't hurt to list your system specs.

If your graphics card doesn't support 3.0 Shaders; that could cause the distortion you're seeing.

I tried patching as you suggested, still same problem. I have a ATI Radeon Mobility X1300 graphics card, its a little old but it supports Shaders 3.0. Surely this game should be able to run on XP with DirectX 9... Any other suggestions as to why this may be, I was thinking bad copy but I'm not so sure as it's happened with two seperate copies of the game.

I could get SP3, but it screws up my wireless internet connection and the game is supposed to be fine with SP2 anyway. As for Video Ram, if it is bad video ram, how do I fix it short of buying a new graphics card... My other games have worked fine in the past, albeit I have to run most new ones on low settings as my graphics card is not brilliant. Assassins Creed itself for the first few levels works fine and the graphics are normal, its only after a certain point that everything looks as it does in that picture.

i have a suggestion, start your own thread...

as to the TC-- you should try to install the game, at least one copy, on another computer, if one is available, maybe a friends or something, it is possible that you got two corrupt copies of a game. it's also possible that your video card is going out and it's just something about those later levels that shows off the problems with the card. I'm not sure. but i hope it's not the latter, because idk of many options when it comes to replacing the video card on a laptop.
