Started playing the game earlier this morning and again for a couple hours this evening. Soon after I started the game again to find the last 2 hours were not saved. Looking online it seems like this is a common problem that has something to do with the DRM. All the topics I've seen are a couple years old and don't seem to have any reliable fix. So in 2012, has Ubisoft addressed this issue? Or does anyone have a fix that will definitely work? I'm running on Windows 7 if that matters.

Haven't tried AC 2 yet, myself, buuuut. Is there a regular save function? I never trust autosaves anyway, if there's an alternative. Always do a manual save before exiting.

There is no manual save. It's supposed to autosave when an action is completed which would be fine except it can stop working.

Hmm. very strange. Again, I haven't played AC2, so I don't know, buuut.... If I ran into that, the first thing I would do is try running it as Administrator. Maybe windows has a problem with letting it create its save files for some reason.

I wonder if this uses Ubisoft's cloud saving system. Their servers have been getting totally hammered during the Steam sale, and I think they only managed to get them working again a few hours ago.

I am propably gonna get flamed for this, but it will best to seek another way to play the game, possibly offline...if you know what i mean. Its more reliable.

Totally agree. I can't stand convoluted and experience-breaking DRM systems, and I think they totally warrant getting cracks to run games without them. Especially if you already bought the game legit, and the publisher's inability to get their sh!t together is making it a pain for the customer. thepiratebay is your friend.

Haha. That's awesome. What a great example. Guess not quite the same, but somewhat similar to how the original version of GTA4 for PC required their totally rediculous Rockstar Games Social Club, which was apparently so terrible, that in later patches they just straight up got rid of it. Although I still use a version that requires it because 1.0.4 is more friendly for mods. Every time I want to play it, it has to go through the "skip login" process twice, before letting me open the game. Sigh... damn publishers these days, thinking piracy is a much bigger problem than it is.

Yeah or you can, you know, not crack it and just play it offline? It doesn't require an internet connection to run and it also saves locally. Don't connect to Uplay and see if the saves will still have problem, there might be some glitches because Ubisoft is in the process of "evolving" Uplay.

I remember way back, when damn near all games still required the disc in drive to run, I didn't even know that pirate copies of games existed, but I still got no-cd cracks for everything that I could, just because I hate swapping discs. That, and I used to haul my whole tower/monitor setup back and forth from my friend's house, and I already had a duffel bag full of mouse/kb, cables, and speakers, and didn't want to drag another one full of games.

As far as i know ac2 was never patched to be playable offline, only the next assasin creed games were like that. I thought

AC 2 was patched months after the whole internet drama ( that I was part of, because of the outrageous stories that turned out to be trolling), titles after that were created from the start to run offline.

Yeah, I got the collection for PS3, mostly just so I could try out LatD and BoGT, since those were added free in version 1.0.7 for the PC, but that version screwed with a bunch of optimizations and won't even run on my system. Whenever I just want to drive around, shootin stuff goin crazy though, I play it on my PC. It looks sooooooo much better than the console versions, even vanilla. And I play it with a low-end enb, and a whole mess of car mods, and added guns. And the bigger explosions mod. And the gun realism mod. And a giant map add-on that brings in the whole desert from Red Dead Revolver, with a huge racetrack stuck on the side. Combine all that with Independence FM, and it's much more satisfying if I just want to drive around and shoot people. As soon as I'm tired of it, though, I'm uninstalling, and doing a very deep clean of my registry, to get all that nonsense out of there.
