The Beyerdynamic MMX 300 are supposed to be excellent. My experience with Beyerdynamic, in general, has always been very good.

Skip the Astros. Nobody wants headphones named after the Jetson's dog.

Happy gaming,

Boz

Where did the Headphone FAQ page go?

Anyway, Beyerdynamics easily.

You can buy the Mixamp separately. If you're just looking for a headphone amp and surround processor, though, the Turtle Beach Ear Force DSS 7.1 is a better value. While I don't usually recommend Turtle Beach, their amp is actually a great value at ~$70 considering what you get in terms of connectivity and processing. Boz

Dolby Headphone does not necessarily reproduce 5.1 or 7.1 discrete channels. From their own site, "Delivers realistic 5.1-channel sound from any set of headphones...Dolby Headphone accurately creates the sensation of up to five loudspeakers in a room using powerful digital signal processing (DSP) technology." The Dolby Headphone Turtle Beach PX5, for example, only has two speakers (two 50mm drivers). The same with the Astro A40's: two 40mm drivers. Read the HEADPHONE "SURROUND SOUND" EXPLAINED section of the Headphone FAQ in these forums for details on headphone surround sound. TL:DR - "Surround Sound" should be ignored when deciding on one pair of headphones versus another. Boz

Dolby headphones is pretty neat, the xonar dg has that feature and I paired it with my Klipsch s4 which sounds amazing for music mimicking a sounded room though is kind of fake.
