ASUS unveiled their next gtx 580 the directcu II

problem is its a triple height card

Gamespot needs a like button.

Actually on second thought no it doesn't.

Still, whats all that extra cooling power being used for? Does it have some massive overclock?...

I really like it. It runs much cooler than the other models and it can achieve equal cooling at lower and quieter speeds. I have like 6 free PCI slots in my case that i'd never use anyways and I have a junior sized mid tower. But I am sure the card will come with voltage OCing which should allow you to push it pretty far while keeping everything nice and cool.

I'd buy it just for the look, it looks like a very large and $$ card lol.

gtx 580 single gpu w/ improved fansink and improved voltage

it makes it a modertely better overclocker but drives the power consumption up

namely to 8 pin power connectors

Yeah well i could buy it... I use only one slot which is my graphics card so it's no loss to me... Plus if i need a sound card or NIC or even extra USBs then i can get all them on PCI which is further down my board and easily accessible..

For some reason, I really want that card. If I somehow get enough money in the near future, I'm replacing my two 460s with that sexy piece of tech. On second thought, the 460s stay in the rig and I'll just cuddle with it in bed at night.

I just want to see the day when GPU's get too heavy and pci-e slot snaps from the added weight.

I currently only have 1 of 6 expansion slots used on my motherboard and in my case. I see no problem with this thing being a tri slot design. back in the day you had to have expansion cards for everything, modem, sound, network, 2d card, 3d card. Most of that is onboard now, why not make huge cards?

+1 to this. Also, one of these is all you'll need for a GPU for a while anyway.

I really don't know why everyone's crying about the size when everything these days is onboard. If it makes the card better who cares? I can't ever see myself using anything but the PCI-E slot in my case anyways.

Better cooling and overclocking? Please go ahead and take 4 slots up if you have to.
