I am going away for school and understand that desktops are always better for gaming but i need theconvenience of a laptop. I am asking for anyone opinion on which laptop. Im looking for something that is fast, able to output 1080p on my tv, can play decent graphic demanding games, and has a decent customer service. I have heard good things and bad things about both. Is it true that as long as it has an HD outlet you can get 1080p resolution on your tv or does the laptop need to have 1920x1080 resolution. The two comps are

Sager NP2098

Any help would be appreciated.

You're going to get slightly better gaming performance out of the Asus. The 9800m is better than the 4650 in the sager. Plus the addition of DDR3 in the sager is a waste of money...the speed boost won't be noticeable compared to the DDR2, especially when used in tandem with the less powerful graphics card. That being said - you really should evaluate whether you'll use this type of laptop the way you think you will. Several of my friends bought laptops for school when they went to college and ended up getting rid of them and building desktop machines. You tell yourself now that you'll use it, but unfortunately the size of laptop that is necessary for gaming is not conducive to classroom notetaking. A gaming-class laptop (if there is such a thing) has such poor battery life and is so heavy that it is at best impractical. I had a laptop for a while too, and it ended up sitting on my desk most days, so I sold it. It's really truly not worth the hassle. Just get yourself a desktop, and if you find that you absolutely cannot stand writing notes out longhand and writing your papers in your room, then invest in a netbook sometime down the road. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your input. I will think about maybe a netbook down the road...(Christmas Maybe). I noticed the asus has a 9 cell and the sager has 6cell battery. I know the 9cell would last longer. I may want to go with the Asus just because the battery life and better graphics. Should I be worred that the Asus is refurbished and the Sager is brand new? The Sager website states is supports full 1080p output. Is that the case with every laptop that has a hdmi output>?

My friend has the exact same Asus. I myself have a previous model, the G50VT-x1 which actually has a faster processor, but everything else is the exact same. The 9800M GS is a pretty good mobile graphics card, as it'll run anything, not at max settings but still very well with proper tweaking. I play most newer games at close to max settings.

I personally never hesitate to buy refurb products. I mean if you think about it, they are usually fully warranted by the company, and you can rest assured knowing that it was hand inspected and whatever problem it had was fixed and tested to be fixed by their engineers. In a way, I personally feel that you can expect a refurb to operate *more* reliably than a brand new product. But that's just my opinion. As for the 1080p output...I don't have much experience with that, but I don't see why the 9800m shouldn't be just as capable of outputting to a full 1080p resolution as the 4650 is. It's more a question of what resolutions the card supports than anything else.

Ok well it looks like I will probably go with the Asus G50vt-x5. I always hear about people installing windows7 or tweaking thier machine. Is there a good website with some info on this. I am always hesitant to overclock because I dont fully understand it. This will also be my first machine with window vista on it. I may need to do some reading because I always hear that Vista has too much stuff intergrated that it slows the comps potential.

I wouldn't bother trying to OC on a laptop. You are likely going to run into overheating problems very quickly. What you buy is what you get on laptops, generally. I don't know of any Vista-tweaking websites...but I'm sure a quick google search will turn something up for you. I could look it up, but honestly I've never used one so it's hard for me to say. On the topic of Windows 7...I'm using it on my main machine and I love it. It performs much faster than Vista out of the box (although Vista really isn't that bad once you update it).

Ok well thank for the awsome help. I go for the Asus but if it sells out soon and I cant get it then the Sager will do. I think the computer comes with vista of TigerDirect so I will maybe look into Windows7 in the future wheen I have more money lol. I am also gonna look into laptoplaptop accessories. I may need a sleave for this thing. maybe a cooler, small speakers because the speakers are not that great supposidly. I still have an old laser mouse from logitech that seems to work fine. Is there really a big difference in the mouses these days?

Personally I have a razer pro|click and would have a difficult time going back to a regular mouse for day to day stuff. But it's really up to the user. If you're happy with your mouse I don't see any reason to spend a bunch of money on a new one.

Well, by now, you probably bought the Asus, unfortunately. It's not all about the video card. Just look at the reviews on Asus laptops. They kinda suck. Sager is pretty much the absolute best laptop manufacturer out there. They put only the best equipment in their laptops. With Asus, just like any other big-name company, you get a good CPU, a good video card, lots of RAM, and lots of storage space, all plugged into a piece of crap mobo, with very low quality RAM. Sagers on the other hand, come with top-notch MSI Mobos and Kingston or OCZ RAM. You can have a really fast CPU with tons of RAM, and it will be great for a short time, but if you plug it all into a crappy mobo, it's not going to last long. Oh, and lastly, Sager has the absolute best tech support I've ever worked with. You call them any time of day and you immediately talk to someone. No robot to talk to for half an hour while you try to get a real person, no waiting forever for someone to pick up. They answer immediately and know everything about every model of laptop they make. Because, unlike Asus, they actually MAKE their own laptops.
