I currently have a P5Q-Pro Motherboard installed on my new rig with windows vista 64bit on it. Sadly I Should have bought it after I found the problems about it (such as certain RAM not working and not booting with two sticks) but I have it so thats that.

My problem is that the P5Q-Pro has a audio problem where the audio will not come out of the speakers or any other audio device , and several people have the exact same problem. I have searched and searched google and seen the same thing countless amounts of times EXCEPT someone finding closure or finally fixing the problem. I have my speakers enabled in the sound devices area and the HDMI and SPDIF options disabled as my speakers are old and I dont beleive they will work on this frequency (which it hasnt for days , I have been having this problem for multiple weeks now and just now turned them off). I however cannot set my speakers as the device no matter where I plug it into.

Does anyone know what I can do to finally get my speakers up and running so I can finally hear sound again?

Thanks alot.

you will find that when it comes to real problems, these boards arent much use.

that being said, in windows device manager do you have anything listed under "sound, video and game controllers"? if so what is listed there?

Can you verify for me that in your BIOS the sound is in fact enabled?

in control panel>Sound whats is your output device listed?

That sounds almost like hardware... have you called the manufacturer? Is it under warranty?

you cant assume that. many people dont return to post if resolutions worked. once i have more time to research this issue ill post again if the OP hasnt resolved it.

OP i would like very much if you could answer my questions so i can assist you further.

Sorry for the late post but I was at work today. For the first question since I have windows vista premium , when I got Control panel -> Hardware and Sound - > sound , it gives me four options for my sound device : Headphones , Speakers , Digital Output Device(SPDIF) , and Digital Output Device (HDMI). Both Digital Output Devices are able to be turned on and off and it was originaly on the SPDIF option. Both Headphones and Speakers have the black checkmarks making them unable to be turned on or off even though my speakers are plugged into the power outlet and on and plugged into the computer.

I have checked several times in the BIOS where the audio part is to enable the sound and it was and still is enabled.

I also do not think it is a hardware defect in the fact that it is a ruined board since its happening to ALOT of P5Q-Pro boards , just the problem is none of the threads lasted long enough to get a response on a fix that I could find on google.

Also to let everyone know the sound was working fine until I unplugged my Speakers and plugged in my headphones when I first got it.

Last and final thing : I have updated all my drivers and have even tried several different old drivers to see if they work instead.

Thanks so much again everyone , I hope I can get this fixed. ><

Then I don't think the problem is the motherboard...

I would call asus, if other people are having the problem they might know how to fix it.

Just picked up the same mobo....I had the same problem until I installed the RealTek HD Audio Manager software on the Asus CD. Now if I plug my headphones in, the speakers turn off, and vice versa. When you have the software installed, it will ask you when you plug your headphones in, what you just plugged in, and give you the correct option. It should be straightforward.

Hope this was helpful

EDIT: Here are the settings you're looking for:

Click on Speakers, then in the upper right corner, click on Device Advanced Settings. Make sure mute the rear output device is checked, as well as Tie up same type of input jacks.

I just got the same mobo, and as plasticass said all I had to do was put the Asus CD in and install the audio drivers on it. A reboot later and my surround sound system was working straight away without any more fiddling :)
