So here's thing: I'm about to buy a brand new PC, one problem: the graphics card.

On the one side, I heard that the ATI Radeon 4890 has more issues.

On the other side, I heard that the GTX285 also has some issues. But the GTX285 is more Crysis friendly than the 4890 (or so I read).

Budget isn't really a problem but I need to choose between these two.

My goal is to have awesome performances at games that demand a high-end graphics card.

REMEMBER: This is not a flame thread. I need advice from people who are really busy with hardware stuff.

Thank you in advance.

The 4890 offers good price/performance

The GTX285 is better in more games and offer other benefits like CUDA, PhysX and TYIMTBP.

either card your looking at would be overkill for that resolution.

Crysis would still give some challenge.

Meh, maybe but why spend $400 for a card just to max out one game. $200 mainstream card would run most games at high with some AA at that res.

A GTX 260 core 216 or an HD 4870 would max out all games on that res. Those GPUs are overkill and a waste of money for that res.

As I said, I really want the best. I don't need all that 'just below highest' crap.

Yeah, but why buy a Ferrari if the speed limit is only 65 :). Maybe if you plan on upgrading your monitor down the road it would be a good investment. Anyway, it's your dough bro.

I would get the 4890 over the 285 any day, it`s so much cheaper, I would also get the 275 over that as well, but at that res maybe just get a 260 or 4870.

285. its dual cards on 1 chip. besides the fact that it has nvidias GDDR4 right? GDDR3 matched ati's GDDR5. but anyways, you will get a much higher overclock on the gtx(even tho thats not a big thing its still good). it runs a lot better, runs faster. sure the 4890 is cheaper, but in 2 years, ityll be outdated. gtx 285 and 295 will be good for at least 4-5 yers before upgrade. look at previous. ati 3850, nvidia 8800. 8800 is still around and good, 3850 is long outdated. so the gtx 285 is more futureproof, and better performance. 4890 is cheaper. if money really is no problem, get the 285, or the 295. but if i were you, id wait for the GTX 315. supposd to be cheap and really fast.

joshott

Wrong lol the 285 is a single gpu card, and it uses ddr3. Seriously why do people comment if they don`t know what they`re talking about.
