with an i7 you should be able to put the physics on Medium at least.

I have a 5850 with a cruddy dual core cpu and i can run the game on the highest settings but with physx turned off.

You can process physics... But not "Hardware Accelerated PhysX" as ATI devices don't have the hardware Nvidia devices do to do that... You can however get a cheapo 9800GT to run PhysX for you, though I here PhysX with ATI cards as your main display device is difficult...

Why not just download the demo and see how well can you run the game yourself? There is even a benchmark included in the demo.

If you want physx you'll have to get a nvidia sli setup or get a gtx 460 and use a old 8800gt or 9600gt that lying around somewhere.

I have a 5850, if I turn Physx on I get between 10-20 fps. If you want Physx you'll need a Nvidia graphics card.

Then there will be some problems, because Mafia uses Steam and if it'll have updates you're going to need to download them off Steam and initially you'll need to download Steam (you can get the setup from somebody else tho) and wait for some updates to download.

A picture won't show you the difference, if you can run sd vids fine then check on youtube, search mafia 2 physx or mafia 2 apex comparison.

If you have an ATI card and Turn "PHYSX" ON you will get NOTHING! all you will get is a major performance hit for NOTHING! sorry you need a NVIDIA card for that

Not anymore, Nvidias newer drivers automatically shuts down the hardware if there are non nvidia cards detected

You shouldnt worry man. You have a great card and should be able to max the game As for physx sure they add few nice effects but the difference is not that big in order for you to worry that the graphics quality of the game is diifferent from your card with someone with an Nvidia GTX460 If you want that badly for physics you can buy a cheap 9600gt and use it as physx card ( though its a bit tricky to do it and it certainly not worth giving $60-70 for a vga just to enjoy few effects more )

That's why in this physics war ATI is pathetic and should be ashamed, they were the ones that wanted to purchase Ageia (they planned for more than a year), they waited too long and Nvidia got them.

You will be able to run the game very well with your card, just Phsyx is for Nvidia.

Your missing a few bells and whistles (effects) but your not gonna miss a whole ton.

PhysX is not worth it. To run it on high you need another GPU anyway and that means $200-$300 more for a few bits of debri flying around.

200-300 dollars seems very high in number. 8800gt/9800gt/gtx/gtx+/gts250 would nicely compliment for physx while being in a nice 80-120 dollar range.
