ATI 6950 Length question

I've been hearing a lot about the 6950 being a LONG card (no jokes, please) and was wondering if my case would fit it.

Currently, I have a Saphire 4870x2 in there (which I'm getting rid of) and they say it's 10.5 inches. I have a bit of space left beyond that, and was wondering if a saphire 6950 would still fit in my mid tower.

So basically, if my 4870x2 fits, will the 6950 fit there in its place?

The HD 6950 is about the same length as the HD 4870x2 :P

Edit: to be clear, they vary between 10" & 11.5". I'm not 100% but I think that the 2GB is usually 11.x inches and the 1GB model 10.x inches.

My XFX 6950 2GB is 11.3 inches and the 1GB is 10.2 inches. The Saphire should be pretty close in size.

r u getting 2gb or 1gb version? Im also thinking of getting one but its expensive at $240 argghh

I measured my 4870x2 and it's about 11inches, so I imagine I'll be ok.

Just get out a ruler/tape and measure. That's what I had to do. That 2GB card should be around 11.3 inches.

If your current card is 11 inches and you have extra room you should be fine.

I measured my 4870x2 and its 11inches, and i do have about an inch of room it seems, so I should be alright. I'd hate to take a bolt cutter to the bays and tear out some metal for it.

You should definetly be fine and then some.

I was worried about it fitting in my mid tower but I ended up having over an inch to spare.

Good, it comes tomorrow. I'm really excited to get it, I want a DX11 card bad, and this seemed the best bang-for-the-buck.

I've been impressed with mine, although it's easy to impress someone coming from a system that had a 6800 GS lol. I got it to max out newer games at 1920x1080 and it does that for me.

It seemed better than the 560ti in the same price range.

try overclocking it see how far you can get. If you hit 950 mhz you can out pace a 580 gtx according to techgage.

Just got this card today and was suprised by the size (the 2gig) but it fit in my mid towel so it should be alright with you.

I had to cut about an inch out of the HDD racks in my Soprano case in order to fix in my 6950, I probably could have managed to get the card in without cutting so much off, but it would have been a very tight fit.

2GB. Flashed it to 6970 as soon as I got it installed. Also, when you change over the cards, I recommend uninstalling whichever drivers you had for the 4870x2 and using a driver sweeper in safe mode. Then install the card. When you boot back up install the new 11.4 preview drivers, they have a large performance increase over the 11.2 (you can find the drivers on guru3d.com)Janus67

Just a follow up, you were right, the 4870x2 and my new 6950 were the same size. Had to mvoe around some cables but it's in and kept crysis going on extreme for an hour at 1680x1050 with ease.

Two things that shock me though is that #1: The fan is inhumanly quiet. It doesn't even sound like it's on. I'm used to my last 3 cards (A 4870x2, 7800 and a 6800ultra) being as loud as vacuum cleaners but this card sounds like a whisper. #2: It's 20 degrees cooler than my 4870x2 ever was. It idles around 42c and after an hour of Crysis 2 at Extreme it's around 71-72. My 4870x2 was about 10-15 more than that on its best day.

Really amazing card so far. Quiet, fast and powerful.

I didn't get the preview drivers you recommended. I stuck with the 11-2's and they seem to be performing very well in Crysis so I'm not going to rock the boat. (I still have nightmares with the Omega drivers from years ago and I'm leery about using non-WHQL stuff)

EDIT: Also, yes tax, my 6950 is completely quiet, I can't hear it over anything, I got concerned when I first got it and actually booted up a few times with the side panel off just to make sure the fan was running.
