Hey dudes,

I was jus wondering whats a good clock speed for these cards, I currently have them at: core 890MHZ, and mem clock at 1390mhz clock. However the increase in performance is almost unnoticeable. Heres the link to the cards I have

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103182

What clocks do you guys think I can reach with the 6970s I have, I want to increase my benchmark performance considerably. Ive seen people with my exact same setup scoring close to 10k on 3dmark 11. However! I cant see their GPU Clocks due the forsaken "driver no supported" mesage. KK thanks :D

10mhz. You really thought you'd get a good increase from 10mhz?

So far, the highest OC I've seen in reviews is 950mhz in the core. Increase the core by 10mhz increments, and run a 3DMark11 bench. If it freezes, back it down by 5mhz increments until it's stable, and then run a 10min OCCT GPU test at optimal shader settings. That's the method I use currently, and it hasn't failed me yet.

LMAO I haven't tried anything above 10mhz due to benchmark crashes, however 3dmark 11 isn't that stable compared to vantage or 06 in my experience. Regarding the 10mhz increase should I do the same for mem clock? What kinds of clocks have you seen for memory clocks btw?

Wow, really? You're hitting instability at those clocks already? Hm :?

Are you sure your CPU OC is fully stable? Because I know my friend had overclocking woes with his GPU's as well, only to find out it was his processor that was unstable.

Well I have ran Prime 95 with no issues, whatsoever. I'll probably load default settings in bios and see whats the best GPU/CPU Oc.

Just hit a wall on mem clock at 1420mhz, 3d mark 11 crashed. I'll keep un bumping core clock. Benchmark runs perfectly now after I removed CPU overclock, so yes it wasnt stable.

Lol well there you go. Glad to hear you managed to find your problem.

But yeah, just keep on bumping it up by 10mhz until something weird happens with 3dmark11.

try changing your voltagesgrackfields

6970's don't have automatic voltage tuning capabilities.

a 6950 1gb at 950 mhz core will match/beat a gtx 580, so a 6970 at 920mhz should do the same if not better

Here's a benchmark to try to compare to if you wish to beat two 580's :)

Isn't there a GPU Ocing program that lets you increase voltages?

This is 3dmark 11 of an oc'd 6950, you can see that the oc'd 6950 gets a score similar to a 580 gtx. Also 2 6970's at stock should have a 3d mark 11 of 10000

EDIT: Image doesnt seem to be working so i'll post the link http://techgage.com/article/amd_hd_6950_1gb_vs_nvidia_gtx_560_ti_overclocking/8

LOL they are using and I7 Extreme Edition, thats why they are getting that score. I know that my cpu is the culprit here, im just gona have to wait until the bulldozers come out or jump on the intel wagon. We'll see.

Yeap I just downgraded my Oc to 3.8Ghz, 100% stable. Scoring 8250 marks now. Blows my mind how old generation i5s kick the crap out of AMDs CPUs.

I maxed CCC options for my XFX HD6970 (950MHz/1450MHz) off stock cooling and voltage.
