The ATI graphics brand is to be retired by its owner AMD, some four-and-a-half years after it bought the company for $5.4 billion, according to Businessweek.

AMD has said that by the end of the year the ATI name will be replaced with AMD on all its graphics brands, which include Radeon, FirePro and Eyefinity. However, no changes will be made to any of the company's product plans.Trusted Reviews

Seeing as AMD is going to be making CPU's & GPU's in one package it makes sense to ditch the ATI name.

Then my dear friend if thats all intel does then why does AMD make the Athlon and other model of processors to compete against Intel's processors.

Ofcourse there in competition.

AMD has owned ATi for a long time now. They are just taking ownership of their acquisition.

Yep. Its just a rebrand nothing more. The Ati brand will be retired, and it will simply just be known as AMD(they are one company afterall). Also, the Radeon name stays, and with AMD coming out with Fusion, having the GPU and CPU parts under one name makes sense.

Its funny AMD puts there name on the video cards but its too bad their processors underperform. An intel dualcore destroys the crap out of their Quads. When you hit the Intel quads its not even comparible.

It's not that bad..... Sure Intel CPUs preform a bit better, but AMD CPUs are also quite a bit cheaper.
