Intel went through this kind of humiliation with the Pentium 4, as did nVidia with the Geforce FX. Now it's ATI's turn.
lol, Poor ATI I knew this was going to happen.K_r_a_u_s_e_r
lol glad i got my 8800 gts already instead of waiting for something that only ends up disappointing.Â
Wow, and I was expecting new ATI cards soon. Definately nice job on Nvidia's part, keeping prices down (especially 8800GTS) even though there is nobody competing.Heretic32
Yeah. 8800GTS prices are now dropping really quickly. Here in the UK the GTS costs only £170 !

Ouch. I knew that is going to happned. I posted on the formus, that it will be like Geforce FX and nobody believed me. Now you see. I knew it.I am VERY happy that i didnt wait 6 months on this card, i took a risk whit 8800 GTX, and now i see that it was a great move. All of you that have waited soo long for this cards must be very dissapointed. You could be gaming for 6 months now whit 8800, but you decided to wait. And now this is your dissapointment.Â
Too bad, that NOBODY believd me, when you were all saying, how ati will pwn nvidia whit these cards. I simply KNEW that this will happen.
Have a nice day now. You spent 6 months waiting for this "champion", and now you realize that it cant compete whit 8800 GTX.
As i already sad you could be gaming for whole 6 months now. Â

Actually a lot of these people who waited will probably save themselves a bundle on price cuts. :) Mmmmmkay, thanks.

Thats not a very informative post actually. Ummm... AMD hasn't been top dog for quiet a while actually. Intel took it with the Core 2 Duo and nVidia has had it for years.

Well you shouldnt expect nvidia to lower the prices of 8800 GTX so much, since it is still the champion. 8800 GTS is different story. They will probably become much cheaper.

When you say ruling the PC world, are you talking about its 25% hold of the desktop CPU market share? How about its 0% hold on the chipset industry? Motherboards? Power supplies? Memory?
Oh wait, you must be telling a funny joke. HAHA, nice one. ;)
Maybe the Core 2 Duo slapped you so fast you didn't see it coming.
Anyway, I think some people don't have a fricken clue. Especially people like this:
lol glad i got my 8800 gts already instead of waiting for something that only ends up disappointing.
The HD 2900 XT whoops the GTS for $50 less. :| I dunno what you're on about. The problem only lies with the XTX version, which will most likely be completely redesigned, from the ground up. :/
Also, considering that THERE ARE NO DX10 GAMES YET, I don't see why some people are calling it doom of DAAMiT.
the 2900 xt is something to seriously consider as an alternative to the 8800 gts, even a replacement as it resoundly beats the 8800 gts in preliminary benches so its not gloom and doom when you see the extraordinarily popular 8800 gts 320 mb or even the 640 mb are losing market share to the 2900 xt.
Its not even close, the REAL business is in the midrange, the fact that they've kept things zipped up to until around the 14th of may shows they may have something substantial in their rv610 and rv630, giving the "flopped" 8x00s a run for their money.
If AMD/ATI fails there, that would be the time to spell doom, but I can only imagine them to be better, and also at a better price point, if not better the only avenue in both the midrange and the highend area is to undercut Nvidia by a price war.
You have to admit though, early outlooks keeps the High-end crown in the hands of nvidia, but only time will tell, and I, as an 8800 gtx owner, am still holding on to my breath, but its all formalities on who's top in that department anyways, it only signifies who rules that segment, which I will say is but a fraction of all sales, and significance is not of greatest importance to the big picture. No person who has the budget to buy a midrange will be detracted by the fact that company X doesn't have THE best card, they'll only care about the card in their price segment.

By PC world i meant the gaming world, thats what we're on about. And by gaming world, i meant CPU and GPUÂ
Which raises the question--why didn't you say so in the first place? Also, you were wrong about AMD ruling for far too long.
Intel had ruled the x86 market for nearly 2 decades before AMD got its act together. Even though Intel's desktop counter for K8 was late, AMD has no excuse for where it is now. AMD should've taken warning from the original Core arch in the Pentium-M/Celeron-M. Further more Banias and Dothan were released waaaay before Conroe/Merom/Woodcrest, which would've given AMD enough time to launch a product of its own, right about now.
It was only a matter of time before Core 2 would've came out, but AMD decided to lower its guard and ignore the Pentium-M, which was already outperforming the Turion 64 with better power management and plenty of clock speed headroom (sound familiar?).
Also, ATi and NVIDIA's battle is no where near as clean cut as the battle of Intel and AMD. ATI and NVIDIA were basically neck and neck for years, until the G80 was released.
This is all good and all but....Where are the DX10 games!?
We are all going out of our ways to but the BEST DX10 card's and the day comes when the games are released and they don't work.... [just a hyperthetical example]
IMO I have a long wait till a upgrade so im just gonna sit back and relax and watch ATi and Nvidia Duke it out for the best bang for buck

i guess you'd want to tell crytek to hurry up, or Relic, GPG, M$, etc, to roll out DX10 patches to their games.

Why is it everyone wants to see the death of AMD/ATI? I mean hell, we need the competition or we will have to rely on who? SiS? Anyways, just because one card fails doesn't mean it is the end of the world. I mean heck, it happened to NVidia back in the day and it was bound to occur to ATI eventually.
Â
And people saying "Too bad you guys waited for the 2900, you wasted six months that you could have gamed with the 8800."
All I have to say is who cares? A lot of people were either waiting as they weren't ready to upgrade yet or have a card that can handle games at the moment and wanted to see if it would be worth the upgrade.
 Â
Also, don't say you saw this coming. You aren't a specialist in the field of Marketting and shouldn't try to act like one. Hell, when you say "LMAO, ATI got pwned" or "Told you idiots that you would happen" you come off as a fanboy. Rumors of ATI/AMD's death is greatly exaggerated (Rise Against reference :) ), yeah they are far from it, its only when they totally mess up the midrange can we be fearful, but I doubt they'll do that. As for the "should have gotten the 8800's instead", that's just the natural backlash when we were told that the HD 2900 utterly destroy the 8800 GTX (and by the tech specs it should have) and it was a waste of money, just look at this post: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25583641
The poor xtx results aren't unprecedented at all, and the xt results are pleasantly great. I say that for the xtx because we've had months of reports indicating ATI's problems with the gddr4 memory and they did admit to it being beaten by the xt even, so it wasn't boding well for the xtx, so its no surprise its a no-show for AMD/ATI's may releases, as they clearly have to sort that stuff out.
...Also it's not as if there will never be another 2900 XTX. DAAMiT will simply go back to the drawing board and start from scratch.
Till then, there's always the XT, which provides a great middle ground between the 8800GTS and 8800GTX (especially the GTX when the XT is overclocked to 845MHz Core and 1999MHz memory).

[QUOTE="evilbarbarian"]So basically, 8800 GTX > 2900 XT > 8800 GTS.. All three of those are good cards for the price.

Yes, but in performance/price ratio:
2900 XT > 8800GTS > 8800GTX
2900 XT knocks the GTS out with no problems.
I would say that in performance/price ratio:
8800Â GTX >Â 2900XT > 8800 GTS
i'll say this:
Price/Performance
$242 8800 GTX   >   $??? HD 2900 XT   >  $105 8800 GTS
I love where I live now :)

I can't be bothered finding out the numbers :P , but let's divide something like a 3DMark06 score by the card's price. This should give you the performance/price ratio (if you can remember / = divide).

Sure, people waited for a better card but lets also remember people waited for a better price with a good ATI card.... The AtI card woulda knocked the GTX card down at least $100-150!!!
Â
It really sucks that ATI and Nvidia are the only players in this game.... there needs to be more competition so the prices aren't so ridiculous.
Â
I waited for the ATI to come out and outsmart GTX cause man, $600 for a card... youch! Seems so stupid. Anyway....
