ATI Radeon 4890 vs 5770

In the graphics card rankings on this forum, it says the 1GB 4890 is at #9 and the 1GB 5770 is at #18, but I was looking at the specs of the 2 cards and as far as I can tell, the 5770 is the stronger card and has DX11 support. The only thing better about the 4890 was that it's 256 bit while the 5770 is 128 bit. Does that make a huge difference in game performance? Should I go with the 5770 or the 4890?

the 4890 is better, but the 5770 has DX11. If you think the DX11 support is important, get the 5770; and if not, get the 4890.

Really, I think only Dirt 2 (coming out in 2 days) is the only game with DX11 for now. By the time you need DX11, DX11.1 will come out.

The decreased memory width definitely limits the 5770's performance, but not substantially compared to the 4890. I would actually hold off on getting a new video card ATM, at least until prices drop and more DX11 titles are released. If you're pressed to get a new card now, though, I would go with the 5770.

Look for benchmarks and get which ever card does better. Future proof doesn't mean anything right now because the games that will do a good job of utilizing DX11 are going to require a better card than the 5770 to make it run smoothly on good settings. So get the more powerful one.

5770 has already received a performance boost from the new 9.12 catalyst drivers. 5770 is catching up quick to the 4890 and GTX275 and after it gets a few more driver updates the 5770 will probably beat the 4890 and GTX275. The 5770 simply uses better and newer technology which enables it to run cooler, quieter, and use less power than the 4890 and GTX275. The 5770 also has DirectX 11 support. The 5770 is better in so many ways.

Actually I've heard of DX11 games running ok on it because it runs the code more efficiently (someting like that). Its not like DX10 was from DX9Human-after-all

Lets hope they improve. 10%-15% is enough of a hit to make me stay with DX9. I can sacrefice shiney water for fluid gameplay.

4890, just better performance and even with directx 11 support 5770 i still just cant reccomend it.

Has intel abandoned 1156? I mean I know everyone says never get em but I havnt seen any intel roadmaps saying its no longer part of their equation...i figured theyd keep low - mid processors on it.Human-after-all

5770. They run cooler and they scale very well in crossfirex. And it probably costs less than 4890 also.
