Hi can someone in the know please advise me on this card? I'm planning on building a gaming computer with this graphics card. it will have 6gb of RAM and a 2.8 Quad-Core i7. Will this be able to play games with PhysX and on their highest settings?

Thanks,

Mike

ATI cards can't do PhysX it's an Nvidia technology. Also the 4850 is a generation old now. If you're going to spend the money on a nice i7 box you should get a current gen video card for it. Check out the ATI 58xx range or take the time and wait for Nvidia's DX11 cards.

I'd reconsider since your basis on wanting to buy an Nvidia card is 'PhysX' In my opinion it isn't worth it for the £50-£100 extra than an ATI card which would offer the same performance, but no PhysX, which, as far as I am aware of, have no real impact on gameplay.

But then again I'm one to actually play a game rather than to walk in circles seeing if the paper is kicked up into the air when I walk into it.

The card is pretty decent for the money, obviously it won't run all games on max settings and resolutionsbut its a great card to get until the next generation comes down in price, or a new generation is released.

A single 4850 can handle 1680x1050 easily with most titles maxed. While it's a generation old and is fairly cheap, I wouldn't call it a sub-par card.

The only game you'll most likely ever see Physx in is Batman: Arkham Asylum.

You can use an ATI card and use a cheap NV card for PhysX.

If I can't play PhysX without a big drop a 4850 sure as hell can't.

4850 with a core i7? You should be looking at at least a 4870. But anyway, if you really want physyx go for a gtx 275.

i playd batman: AA on my 4850 at 1680x1050 (presumably with no physix) and it was one of my most enjoyed games of recent times.

The reference single-slot cooler was pretty terrible; under load the card would routinely hit 80-90C. A few companies came out with different coolers or slapped on an aftermarket one, and that would probably explain the low temps you're getting.
