Just recently i found out about Cryostasis and its amazing. Theres almost no enemies in the game but its still amazing.

Post all atmospheric games you know like Bioshock, STALKER, Cryostasis, METRO 2033...etc

Doesn't need to be FPS.

Condemned Criminal Origins, Bioshock series and the Hal-Life series are the ones that I believe had the best atmosphere.

Far Cry 1 might fit into the category. If you zoom in to mercs with your binoculars, you'll start to hear them socialize. Captured the setting of an isolated tropical island very well in general.

When I hear atmospheric the first thing that comes to my mind is Assassin's Creed/Fallout 3/Call of Duty.

Half life 2 is the most atmospheric game ever created. I disagree with 90% of the games that people have listed simply because i don't think games with good settings make them atmospheric. It takes fitting music, fitting art, and fitting characters and story to make a game atmospheric. I have yet to play a game, other than HL2, that has had all of those things.

That means I don't find Bioshock atmospheric, i don't find Doom 3 atmospheric and i don't find STALKER atmospheric AT ALL. These games all have the atmospheric graphics done well, but they are lacking in and characters and music and story.

I agree with you on everything except STALKER. Half-Life 2 is atmospheric, but it has NOTHING on STALKER.

GSC Game World (S.T.A.L.K.E.R devs) is an Ukranian company. I guess you can call them Eastern Europe devs.

Condemned : is highly rated as creepy ...i havent played that one yet .

The Haunted Cathedral. I was so scared of playing the game for fear of running into those Haunts that I couldn't play the game. I returned two years later to finish the level...I took me like an entire day but I finished it.

I personally though Metro 2033 was the most atmospheric game I have ever played.

I have played STALKER, HL2, Bioshock and couldnt finish them because the game world didn't grab me and didnt set the mood. While FO3 is a good game its atmosphere is a joke. Arkham Asylum has a pretty good atmosphere as well.

Actually the TC himself mentioned it. :P And I mentioned this in my original post which was in Nov 2010. Boy, this thread is old. LOL
