audio question - soundcard ?

My comp had an xfi soundcard. Ive just upgraded to a new motherboard which has onboard 8.1 audio. should i use the onboard sound chip or put in my old xfi card ?

Which motherboard is it? And do you have a surround system for 8.1? Dont think i have ever seen one.

motherboard is a gigabyte p35- gs3r. my speakers are 5.1

You need to be more specific.What Xi-fi do you exactly have and what is the sound card on your mobob?

xfi xtreme audio sound card

on board chip is realtek ALC889a - sorry its 7.1 not 8.1 by the way

Stick with your old sound card, it is way better. It's got 7.1 audio too.

Actually the extreme audio isnt a great sound card but probably is better than realtek.
