I can't see it happening, at least not to a point that makes it worthwhile buying locally over importing.
I would be very happy to see them match the US RRP, no one is expecting them to match the Taiwanese ebay sellers.
Good on JB for fighting the good fight though, I applaud them.
You are correct on both accounts. Maybe they will never match the online prices of Hong Kong eBay or Steam, but if they can lower it to nearly the same as US RRP then I'm happy. Sometimes I just want to go to a shop and buy the game....not download it or order it online. Does this mean they're actually going to lower their prices because they're criticising themselves here: $80 + for a new game. You can pay half that on Steam and get it earlier. biggest_loserYou can't... MW3 is $100 on Steam, most new games on Steam are $80 atleast.

kinda ironic as JB Hi-Fi are one of the biggest culpuritsl; plus they dont have buyer rewards/incentives nor have they offered the best new release price when compared to Big W or Dick Smith.illmatic87

Steam; $30 Retail; $40 Valve is usually decent at pricing for us Australians though. It's the other producers like activision and stuff.
I will admit you guys are charged WAY TOO much from what we are charged here in the states?
I am curious, how are Steam sales and titles priced in the land down under? Are they significantly cheaper than the retail outlets in Australia?

Depends on each game.
Here are examples: Modern Warfare 3: I pre-ordered it here at a Shop called GAME. Price is AU$89 but with preorder I get free Dog Tags that are actually a 4GB USB Stick. On Steam it's MORE, $99
HAWX2: on Steam it's currently US$49, I've seen it at shops at $75
Super Street Fighter IV: on Steam if I remember correctly I bought it at US$50, not many shops have it but I've seen it AU$80
Deus EX HR: I've seen it cheaper at shops than Steam.
If you're Australian and you don't import games, you really are just hurting yourself in the end. The only way you effect change is with your wallet. Once sales per quarter start dropping, your retailers will take note.
Now if only the US government would pull its head out of its ass and do something so I don't always have to shop at Walmart.
Yes, I always try to go for the best bargain. If it's cheaper on Steam, steam it is....if it's cheaper in the shop, I buy at the shop. I also use eBay which sometimes saves a bit of money (but you have postage). The thing is, I personally LOVE to go into games shop....browse the wall and then pick up the box. Call me old fashion but it's the way I am. Lately with the massive influx of games I have resorted to something I am not very proud of but I have no other choice. I play a game HALFS with a friend. So we both buy it half each, and use his Steam account for both of us. I know it's probably hurting the industry but I just haven't got the income to afford them all myself. If you're Australian and you don't import games, you really are just hurting yourself in the end. Who doesn't like to go to video game stores? I'm not criticizing you. I personally don't buy ANYTHING in my state(New York) unless I absolutely have to. I go across state lines and shop in New Jersey because the sales tax is much less. That's the only realistic way I have of trying to change things.

LOL, the difference in price you probably use anyway on the petrol and the time it takes you to get there and back.... but I understand it's more of a statement on your part.kinda ironic as JB Hi-Fi are one of the biggest culpuritsl; plus they dont have buyer rewards/incentives nor have they offered the best new release price when compared to Big W or Dick Smith.illmatic87It might be, but do you see any of the other game retailers trying to do anything about it?

I actually live RIGHT ON the state-line, and I'm so close to the major outlet shopping center that I honestly don't need to buy anything in NY except my morning energy drink. And milk when we run out...which reminds me.
