Average manufacturers warranty ?

What is the average manufacturer's warranty on Hardware parts? on rough average, and good business ?

Specificaly for the:

1. Video Card

2. CPU

3. MOBO

4. Hard-drive

I am curious because I am trying to weigh out the pros and cons of building my own PC, vs buying one from like Dell, cause dell offers up to 4 year warranties

Warranty varies by company.

Customer service varies by company. Some companies can have good customer service, but some people get the short end of the stick sometimes.

For example, XFX has a DOUBLE Lifetime Warranty. Meaning you get a lifetime warranty with the purchase of practically any of their video cards and when you sell your video card THAT person gets a lifetime warranty for that device.

CPUs usually come with a 3 year warranty, but will usually become void when you overclock.

Basically, you can look up all this information on warranties on the products web page. For example, Newegg will tell you the warranty the manufacturer has for the device.

Depends on your location as well.

As far as i know in the EU the seller has to give a 2 year warrenty with electronics, don't quote me on it though.

You should also be able to see the warrenty info on the site your buying from and when it comes to factory pc warrenties please read up on it before jumping for it, can be all sorts of get out clauses hidden in the small print.

im not sure the 2 year warranty is law yet but by law companies will need to repair within a year BUT that doesn't mean to say you cant claim. If you bought a CPU that broke down after 13 months & you proved you treated the equipment well (not OCed etc) you would very likely win if you took them to court as a £100 processor should last at last 3 years or more. Like wise all the other equipment should last at least 2 years with probably the HDD being the exception unless it was a really expensive one.
