Hi, I just built myself a brand new pc:

Intel Core 2 Duo,

4 GB or RAM,

Vista 64-bit

and a 500GB Hard Drive.

I'm still having trouble deciding which card I should buy, I don't care what the price is, just as long as its not ridicolously high.I do have my eye on the radeon hd4870 though.....

Any suggestions please?

I think I'll stick with the ATI, I don't trust Nvidia, after being stuck with an old Nvidia 5500 for 2 years I think I've had enough.

And whats with this new hd4870 x2?? It's twice the price of the normal one....

It's basically two 4870's strapped into one.

The X2 is twice the price because it is essentially 2 4870 cards in one. Two cores and depending on what model you get...double the memory as well.

The great thing about the market right now is you honestly cannot go wrong with any card you choose. The 200 series is just fantastic, and now that the prices are falling, affordable. The 4870 is an amazing card as well, and will be able to destroy anything at that resoultion (sans crysis). The choice is yours.

Hi I saw a post here on Gamespot about a new version of the HD 4870 that has 1GB of memory. It is supposed to be pretty good. You might want to do a search on it for prices and benchmarks. I personally just installed the 512MB version in my computer a few days ago and I must say it is an excellent card.

yes, i forgot about that, it is about 30-50 more than a normal 4870 but on that resolution it should offer a performance boost
