I don't know if this has been mentioned in any existing threads, but its defidently worth knowing. In the settings.ini file for the game, they have added the ability to change the games FOV (Field of View) which was not available in beta. I'm using FOV 90 (Default is 55) atm and am very pleased with it in my 1920x1200 resolution. I initially set it to 120 just to see if it could go that high and sure enough it scaled it that far. I'm not sure what the cap is but play with it to you're hearts desire.

For those of you that don't know what Field of View is, its how much you can see to the left or right I guess you could say... Its youre viewing range or use of peripheral vision.

o_0 That's just stupid, hopefully they'll update it and add something to ignore the change of FoV.

The max you can go up to is 200 or 201, I think that is what I remember reading anyways

Also I played a couple of matches before the EA servers went to $#&$ at 90 FoV and PB never kicked me

No no no. Don't do this. BC2 FOV is calculated a bit differently. 90 is going to look HORRIBLE on a 16:10 or 16:9 monitor if you're used to a 90 degree FOV in other games.

People should use this calculator to find the FOV value you want in your ini.

There are a number of known issues on EA's end that cause you to be kicked from the game (one is related to the server software, which they're updating later today) ..but I don't think any are related to a Punkbuster kick for changing your FOV. It's a video setting..Punkbuster doesn't look for changes to video settings. If someone experienced a kick just after making a FOV change, it's likely just coincidence.

FOV is so stupid low on most games released nowadays. Good to see a game specificially allowing ability to adjust it.

I don't know if they changed anything for release, but with the beta I had to push my monitor further back on my desk since it was so annoying.. the release version actually seems pretty good. I had no need to mess around with it when I was playing last night, but I'll probably just adjust a bit to see what it can look like.

I'm using a 5:4 monitor though.

Yeahh... it's pretty funny that so many people didn't notice. I tried putting the FOV at 90 at first, went WHOA that's not right, and slowly knocked it down till I hit 70. Looks like I was actually looking for 65 for the 'right' FOV.

Haha yeah. I settled in at ~65 and it seems roughly equivalent to the ~100 FOV I'm used to playing with. I don't understand how someone wouldn't realize that something is wrong at 90 FOV. Lol.

For those that are unaware, the FoV in this game goes by vertical FoV, not horizontal like most others, and adjusts the horizontal FoV accordingly. Thus, if you want 90 horizontal FoV, you'll have to figure out what vertical FoV value you need based on your aspect ratio.

just don't bother using it for single player since it will reset to 55 after every cutscene, the gigantic patch didn't help either

90 makes it look like you're in a fish bowl >_>; ..it's equivalent to a ~121 FOV in other games. Most games have a hard cap below that.

~110 degrees is generally the max I can go in other games (which is ~78 in this game.) Starts getting too hard to see distant targets clearly beyond that. But hey, if it works for you, don't let me stop you..

What would you recommended for someone using 1280x1024 res :P. I've been thinking about messing around with the ini, but wouldn't mind a good place to start, unless it's pointless at my res.

For that aspect ratio, 78 is a good place to start. If you play other FPS games and don't typically do a lot of tweaking in them, that FOV should be close to what you're used to.

Excellent info here, thanks for posting a link for a FOV calculator! I have no doubt that this will make a huge difference.

Playing at 80 using 1920x1200 - feels great to me. 90 gave a fishbowl effect.

Also, IMO disable bloom (bloom=false) Looks like a PC game and not a console port with this change.

I'll probably get accused of hax for this, but while leveling engineer and medic I used the Neostead 2000 with slugs and a 30 FOV. While this made close combat unbearable, I could easily fall into a sniper role with my always zoomed crosshairs. It's easy to land 300+ yard shots using this setup with shotgun slugs.

Only one thing: the FOV in the settings .cfg in BC 2 is the VERTICAL FOV, NOT the horizontal; the game scales the horizontal based in the V FOV. I set mine from 55 (standard) to 75.

When playing I really don't notice the bars. plus its the exact same screen that you would normally have just with more on either side so its not like the bars get in the way.

The FOV you are talking about is the vertical FOV. The normal horizontal FOV is changed automatically by your monitor resolution. So if you have a wider monitor, you'll have a wider FOV.
